Several members of the Woodworkers Guild of Georgia helped break down a load of lumber into bed parts for "Sleep in Heavenly Peace", a non-profit that builds beds for kids in need of a place to sleep. The parts will now move on to another volunteer build day where they will be processed further for final assembly. It was a very rewarding day helping a very worthwhile organization. Thanks to Woodcraft Atlanta for letting us use their facilities!

Over the weekend, the Board of Directors of The Woodworkers Guild of Georgia held an in-person planning meeting at the East Roswell Recreation Center, where we will be holding most of our monthly meetings in the near future. Lots of good ideas were discussed and plans for the upcoming months were made. Along those lines, we are open to hearing any suggestions as to what you might like to see either from our social media posts or in the way of guild activities. Either comment here or email [email protected] with any suggestions. Thanks for following us and we look forward to any input that you might have!

To receive your knife:
1. Send email to [email protected] saying that you saw our Facebook post and are joining the guild.
2. Go to https://www.wwgofga.com/membership/ to fill out a membership form and pay for your first year's dues.
3. Once membership is verified, you will be contacted to pick up your knife at a guild meeting or to make other arrangements.
Eligibility for the knife will be determined by the order in which the email is received.
Each knife is unique, so it will vary somewhat from the item shown in the picture.

Here are pictures from the show-and-tell portion of the March guild meeting. As usual, there were a good variety of projects and interesting discussions.

Guild member Amanda Deen recently shared some pictures with us of the poplar shoe rack that she made. It looks like some work to be proud of!

It’s that time of year again!
Here’s the link to my take on the “Night Before Christmas” poem…a funny parody about making toys in the workshop.
This is my gift to everyone on social media.
Enjoy!

It seems that our guild neighbors to the northeast are having a tool sale the same day as ours. If you are in that corner of Georgia (and are not planning to go to Cartersville for our sale, of course. 😉) You might want to check them out.

We are excited to announce the launch of our new public Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/woodworkersguildga
This is a new place to share and receive woodworking knowledge from both inside and outside the Guild. Group members are encouraged to:
- Share the results of their projects
- Ask and answer questions
- Share tip and tricks
- Share files, most likely, project plans that you have developed or are allowed by the plan owner to share publicly.
- Anything else that you think would be useful to the woodworking community
Some posts to the group will be archived into the Guides area according to subject matter. The currently defined guides are:
- Questions - As people post questions to the group, they will get moved here for easy reference.
- Reviews - for reviewing or recommending woodworking books or products that you have purchased.
- Jigs - for your favorite jigs.
More guides may be added according to the needs of the group members.
Events of interest to the Guild will be published to the group and you can indicate interest or that you are going.
We look forward to you joining our group and seeing your contributions!

Lee Tigner from Olde Towne Cutlery was at our Guild meeting last Thursday and gave an interesting talk about making knife scales. He also very generously gave away some knives in a drawing and one lucky member even received a free class at his shop! As usual, the show-and-tell segment of the meeting let us see some of the fine work that our members are producing. (Your novice social media director will keep better notes next month to credit the show-and-tell presenters. My apologies for not getting it this time.)

This is a Federal-style cellarette designed by Ronnie Young and taught by him in a class I took.
The case and stand are walnut; the back and grid are poplar. The case top is baltic birch plywood veneered in walnut.
The piece is roughly 25 by 18 inches and 41 inches high. The case is separate from the stand and has a grid inside to hold 12 bottles of wine.
The stand sits on brass castors. Black and white banding surrounds the stand and near the bottom of the front legs. The front legs are adorned with bell flowers made of holly and stringing. The stand has a center drawer surrounded by c**k bead and is framed between two oval paterae made of quarter sawn sycamore.
The case has holly edge trim and c**k bead around the opening of the box. The case top is attached with Brusso hinges. The case has keyed lock set off by a holly escutcheon.
The finish is one coat of 50/50 Waterlox followed by one coat of one pound orange shellac followed by two coats of two pound super blond shellac. I will wax the finish in the near future.
