Fact!🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ve been wanting to talk about this for a while. I’ve seen some big instagram accounts taking advantage of people and the conversation around mental health as a whole for monetary gain. The fact that grifters exist in the community sucks. Even accounts with a million plus followers are selling people on the ideas rather than just normalizing the conversation. You are a human being, you aren’t something to make money off of, you aren’t something in constant need of fixing. If you are a big mental health account and you do take advantage of people then I wish you the worst. Maybe…just maybe offer as many free services as possible and don’t take money from people desperate for a solution. Be apart of the solution and not the problem. -

Found this gold nugget in amongst my books today.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

This.

My own fascination with the past and human pre-history is now colliding with my own recent identification of ADHD and I now spend many a thought that should be spent elsewhere pondering how much value the ADHD neurotype has had throughout the course of human history. Just as all Neurotypes have. That's the point of being human.

Difference and diversity is what makes us human.

As the text below the picture [which is of some early hominins sat by a fire at the waters edge by the way] reads

'Without impulsivity, we'd never be where we are as a species. As the early humans sat on the African coast and looked out at the sea, pondering what was beyond; Ung the ADHD caveman was half way across it, inventing doggy paddle in between wondering if he rolled the rock back across the front entrance to the cave.'

My impulsivity has gotten me into and continues to get me into countless difficulties over the years. Yet, for every challenge it has brought there are double the amount of gifts.

Starting BISnet, moving to Running Deer and starting Neurodive. Running a Piggy back marathon. Living in the woods for a week. Walking Hadrian's wall in Roman sandals, the Jurassic coast barefoot. Not letting the fact there was already a boyfriend in position stop me deciding that was my future wife......

Yes, there have been things I hugely regret. Times I was extremely lucky that something worse didn't happen. Times when if not for the loving supportive family around me, it could have gone a different way. Yet, take that all away and I'd lose so many things that make me who I am and are some of the things I am most proud of.

Impulsivity must be recognised, accepted and steered to support children and young people with ADHD better. It needs an outlet. Where it can rush forward with all of it's creative glory. Not constantly bump into surrounding walls until someone has a headache.

A huge issue with the label ADHD is that it doesn't even have impulsivity in it! Yet the impulsivity of the body or mind to wander is the key defining factor. Even now, my impulse to say that has totally overridden my initial point. What was I saying about cavemen again......?
