Tonight at 10:30pm SMFHS seniors, Lauren Garfield and Penelope Covey, will be recognized on the Speech and Debate Nationals stage for finishing in the TOP 14 (of over 250+) in Duo Interpretation.
This is a massive deal and the furthest any duo team from Stow has gone at the National Tournament in school history. They competed for three long days in Des Moines, IA— 12 rounds and finishing as semifinalists. We couldn’t be more proud. These students have left a legacy at SMFHS and after all their years of hard work, they deserve this recognition. Stow Munroe Falls Speech and Debate Team 2023-24
If you are awake and able to tune in to support them, please do. I’ve attached the livestream link below.

Stow-Munroe Falls City School District Appoints New Superintendent
STOW, OH- After a process that began in February, following Tom Bratten stepping aside as Superintendent on January 1, and was delayed by the untimely resignation of a board member, the Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools Board of Education members voted on June 4 to appoint Dr. Felisha Gould as the district’s next superintendent. Dr. Gould is currently the Assistant Superintendent at Cleveland Heights-University Heights City Schools.
The search, facilitated by the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA), identified a quality group of candidates from across the country, Board President Nancy Binzel said. “We followed a thorough process. It included planning with our facilitators, school, and community focus groups, reference checks, leadership assessments for our finalists, two rounds of interviews with the board of education, and open forums for staff and community members with our finalists. While the process was not without contention within the school community, the board is excited for this new chapter in our district’s history and looks forward to Dr. Gould’s strong leadership in furthering the district’s educational mission and facilitating positive outcomes for our students and staff.”
Board President Binzel continued, “The board appreciated the process and the opportunity to look at a diverse group of qualified candidates. Dr. Gould's decade of leadership in several school districts and universities, over 28 years in K-12 education, experience with school-building projects, and a proven track record of teacher and principal mentorship and academic improvement exactly matched the priorities established by the whole board for the district’s next leader.”
Dr. Gould will begin her official duties as superintendent on August 1, with a starting base salary of $145,000 and a three-year contract. Community members and staff will be invited to a meet-and-greet with Dr. Gould later this summer, which will include a presentation of her transition plan.
The Board would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kristie Prough for serving as interim superintendent since January 1. “Kristie has been an invaluable leader in this district for years, and her dedicated service and leadership are incomparable. She has proven to have the backing of the teachers and staff and truly makes a difference in this district, no matter what seat she's in. Her leadership, positivity, and motivation to continue to make it all about our kids are deeply appreciated,” shares Binzel. Following Gould’s August 1 start date, Prough will shift to her seat as Assistant Superintendent & Director of Special Services in the district.
