Courses will help students to broaden their understanding of the human experience. Students will study the individual human condition, needs, values, and potentials and achievements within the multiplicity of cultural values that shape it. They will examine, using critical thinking strategies, how peoples in different cultures, times and places deal with common human needs and concerns. They will review and evaluate, using critical thinking techniques, the intellectual, spiritual and ethical concerns of the human experience as recorded in literature, philosophy, religion, history or other similar areas.

As we equip students with the critical thinking and intellectual abilities to comprehend and explain the human experience in a personal, cultural, and social context, the Faculty of Humanities at Nelson Mandela University provides students with a valuable currency in today's world that is changing quickly.

Languages, criminology, journalism, education, sociology, and politics are just a few of the topics covered by the three departments of the Faculty, which offer courses and conduct research at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and foundational levels of study. Our research centers look into a variety of different topics, which helps us with student monitoring and instruction. We are also dedicated to engaging with the world outside of the university, making sure that employability is a central component of our students' coursework and that academic staff members are encouraged to pursue knowledge transfer and consulting opportunities with both public and private enterprises.

Three interdisciplinary schools—the School of Visual and Performing Arts; the School of Government and Social Sciences; and the School of Language, Media, and Culture—within Nelson Mandela University's Faculty of Humanities provide a variety of intriguing and valuable qualifications.

A comprehensive university, Nelson Mandela University offers both professional and vocational instruction. Seven campuses make up the university, including six in Port Elizabeth and one in George. The South Campus is the major campus of the university. At Nelson Mandela University, students can pursue certificate or degree programs that lead to doctoral degrees.
