The school year may be winding down, but we are cranking UP the FUN!

We got invited to join one of our families while Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources took an inventory of the many types of fish in their stream. We learned about 12 different species that inhabited one of the streams! We also observed the varying sizes, markings, fins, mouth shapes, and gill placements that help with identifying each species.

What a fun adventure! 🌿 πŸ’¦

It was a challenging trip to get there, but we still got "The Best Field Trip Ever" seal of approval! 😎🚲

FriYAY + forest + friends πŸ‚πŸ™‚

On Fridays, we share our favorite writing from the week. One of our writers crafted this gem: "A best friend is someone who builds treehouses with you" 🌲🏑

What are you and your BFF (Best Forest Friend) up to this weekend?

Our morning prompt today was to write about a favorite field trip!

So here's a little from the overwhelming fan favorite- "the time we went sliding down the big rock" β›°οΈπŸ‘β†˜οΈ

"If we can't go to school right now, that's okay, I'm having a lot of fun"

"Pod school rules!" πŸ˜ŽπŸ†’

We were SO lucky to meet Kristi + her friends yesterday! πŸ‘

She let us into the pen to visit with her sheep, who are hard at work doing invasive species clean-up 🌱

She patiently answered everyone's questions, and then the kids got to feed the sheep some special treats πŸ˜‹

Thank you Ms. Kristi !!!!

⭐️Teacher Spotlight⭐️ Meet Sarah- founder, director, and lead teacher at RCFS

Hi, I'm Sarah! I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with a family that loved to camp, hike, and bike, so my passion for the outdoors started as early as I can rememberπŸ•οΈ

I've always known I wanted to work with kids, ever since I was one myself, so becoming a licensed early childhood teacher felt pretty natural. I taught in public school for several years, and I loved working with my students, but over time I felt that there was something missing from their educational environment, so I started taking my students outside for lessons whenever it was possible. That simple change made such a noticeable difference in everyone's mood and memory, almost immediately, and I was hooked on the magic of nature education! When I learned about forest schools in 2016, I knew I'd found my path as an educator, and I've been teaching and learning with children in nature ever since 🌻
