Cicadas have arrived at Alton Elementary! They were all excited to show off the new Comet.
Alton Comets PLTW Launch K-5
Welcome to PLTW Launch, where kids learn to work together to solve BIG problems!
Operating as usual
Afternoon Pre K & Mrs. Holesapple’s Science of Flight: Thrust
✈️💗
Afternoon Pre K Grade Science of Flight: Thrust
3rd Grade Science of Flight: Thrust
Science of Flight: K-5
This week we are learning “thrust!”
Have I told you lately how much fun we are having?! ✈️
Chemistry 💙💛❤️
AM Pre-K: Chemistry
Having fun learning about chemical reactions! They asked if we were going to use a “potion!” 🧪👩🔬
K-3 Laboratory Tools Practice: The Pipette
Students practiced slow and steady hand motions using pipettes. We used our imaginations to pretend we were dropping toxic chemicals onto our scientific testing boards. Good thing it was only colored water! 💦
Older students played tic tac toe and got extra points if their competitor spilled a drop! Fun stuff!!! 🥽🧪
How about the Science of Flight?
K-3 students learned about gravity and drag force. They put their skills to the test and built a parachute to save a plastic egg!
PM Preschool Chemistry!
Students practiced chemistry in the lab and loved it! ❤️🥽🧪 … but who doesn’t love baking soda and vinegar?!
Stability and Motion- Forces and Interaction
Push the assignment to the limit! Don’t just save a tiger from a moat… this tiger fell off a cliff!!!
Edit to add: funny story, they asked if they could climb to the top of the metal storage cabinets in the back of the room - this was our compromise! 😂 😵💫
4-5: Stability and Motion - Forces and Interaction
Imagine a tiger has fallen into a moat at the zoo and your job is to rescue it! Students used simple machine components to design and build a complex machine! After weeks of practice building, I’m sure these tigers are exhausted. 😂
Design a structure that’s made of straw, wood or bricks that can withstand high winds.
🐷🐷🐷
Design a structure that can withstand high winds, made of straw, wood or bricks! 🐷🐷🐷
Structure and Function: Exploring Design K-1 Unit. Design a structure that can withstand high winds, made of straw, wood or bricks. 🐷🐷🐷
K-1: A few pics from our completed 🐷 structures! More will be added to this post later in the week.
Big Bad Leaf-blower tried his hardest to blow down K-1 structures created from the story! Students had some success, and their 🐷 will live to see another day! 🙌
K-1: Structure and Function - Exploring Design
Students have been exploring the structure and function of everyday items, and using the design process to engineer structures of their own. From Jack and the Beanstalk, students designed the tallest freestanding beanstalk they could by only using ten pipe cleaners. Then they designed a beanstalk strong enough to hold a golden egg filled with gold coins! They are currently creating structures from The Three Little Pigs. Creations will dry over the weekend so they can be tested by The Big Bad Leafblower next week!!! More photos coming soon…
