16297. Sometimes I feel like I'm just an experiment for people to "date out" of their norm and return to "normal" afterwards. The dating sphere at Columbia for darker people sucks. I feel like I've heard at least one story from my brown / black friends of some creepy dude not treating them right, oversexualizing them, asking them weird questions, and then cutting them out of the blue only to say, "I'm not feeling well sorry". Then BOOM, he suddenly has a girlfriend. Make it make sense.

16290. I have the biggest crush on Theo from Columbia Space Initiative. He is so cool and smart, and he makes me smile every time I see him. He is obviously very superior to everybody else on campus, being the best Columbia student ever. He's not only the smartest but also the tallest, and his presence is simply captivating. His intelligence, combined with his charm and kindness, makes him stand out in every crowd. Every moment spent around him is special, and I find myself constantly impressed by his achievements and the way he carries himself with such grace and confidence. I really hope to get to know him better and share my admiration for all that he is. Very excited to be on CSI!

I’m from China. Not many Chinese students get to attend elite universities in America. An Ivy League university education is a lot more exclusive than a Rolls Royce, costs more too. In general only the 1% of the 1% get to. “What’s the point of coming to Columbia if I can’t tell my friends back home about it.” It’s not about the food. It’s about the fact that they get to be here."

16286. Recommendations for things to do in Manhattan solo? I'm tired of just sitting around campus by myself. I am something of a shut in by default- I only really do things socially, because I never had the independence to be allowed to do anything on my own, and people have never really invited me to anything other than some parties where people just get drunk, or getting lunch with someone. Like kids play a lot but I was fairly isolated even then, and when childhood ended everyone else was more social and did things and I never caught up. So I don't know what to do with myself as a person at all but sit around doing mind numbing activies. There's so much to do in the city but I have no clue how to engage with any of it. I'm very stuck in my head and afraid to try anything, feel like it's a waste of time, or usually just don't have any ideas. There has to be more to life than this and I just don't know what to do with myself, but finding new places to sit alone and wrestle with existential dread is the most excitement I've had in years. I'd like to change that but I don't know how.

I feel like I'm in this moment where I long for single friends - not as in to pursue or to "go out" to meet guys with, just mean literal friends. all my close friends as of this semester got into serious relationships - it's great and what they deserve, and totally get why they talk about it so much since it's a big life thing, but I just want to have a conversation with them that's not about their boyfriend. After they've talked about it for a while, I'll try to change the subject and they'll find a way to bring it back. The other thing is that, while well-meaning, they also take this as an outlet to give unsolicited advice about my singledom. "Take care of your skin and go to the gym and it'll do wonders for loving yourself! You'll find it when not looking! You're NOT finding it because you're NOT looking!" I just want a friend who will talk to me about something else :( I'm not blameless for these feelings, I have my own longing and jealousy to work out, but I am working on it

16276. i graduated last year. i never thought i'd come back to this page, yet here i am! i'm currently a high school math teacher and grad student, and i just want to shout out professors gabriel young, ronald neath, wayne lee, and (reluctantly) anthony donoghue for teaching me how to code because it's so nice to be able to analyze student data using dataframes and machine learning and s**t rather than just look at tests individually like my colleagues. i love making graphs in r. i fu***ng miss nyc like crazy and i missed coding a lot so i randomly broke it out when writing an iep progress report for my student and ive been using it 24/7 ever since. it's so nice to be able to exercise my brain like that rather than just looking at the 9th grade math im teaching. miss gabe young fr

I don’t think this is an unreasonable thing to say. All social gatherings should he strictly age-limited, and people who break from traditional stages of life should he placed in isolation. I think a fair library protocol - the one I've always followed - is, if there's an empty seat with someone's belongings and I didn't see them just leave, I will just move their things aside, take the seat, and start working. If they come back within an hour, I will apologize and yield the seat; no harm done, since they weren't there to be inconvenienced. If they come back 1-2+ hours later, I will politely refuse to yield my seat and let them know I'd been working in the seat for over an hour. The key, of course, is in being polite when yielding the seat or refusing to yield it. If everybody behaved like this, we'd have fewer vacant seats and less frustration.

16262. The most positive aspect of going to Columbia so far for me is being in a busy subway. I'm so chronically touch starved that being back to back with a stranger tolerating my presence, or sandwiched between two people in a seat, reminds me that I'm alive. It's so comforting feeling like my presence is accepted, we are all going somewhere and here, for a few stops, I belong.

I don't know what to do with how painful this realization has been. I am so alone.

16260. Why do we keep our male football and basketball program while the only thing they only know how to lose. If 30% of them are recruits (which mean that we lowered the bar for them), then we can accept 50 more bright students who may actually make an impact to the world. If the team get 1m budget every year (I’m pretty sure they get more than that), we could get 1m more on whatever extra curricular events that could bond us together (literally football can’t coz ain’t no one is watching it).
Why we keep the program that only exist to embarrass Columbia.
