Best ever start for Ascent! Move-in was comparatively smooth, no conduct incidents, 100% attendance in Ascent classes yesterday and 100% attendance in the afternoon conference sessions yesterday (just 2 missed this afternoon), and instructors report fantastic engagement in classes. I’ve seen (and heard about) so many examples of students reaching out to support each other throughout the week and especially the closing activity this afternoon. So proud to be a part of this program!

Operating as usual
Hey Ascent parents, today we are doing gratitude letters for our weekly activity. We thought it would be a nice idea if any parents wanted to get involved. If so, you can write your child a letter, send it to Scott's or Meghan email, and we will send them out for you!
Thank you!
Legend has it that Robert Frost waits to greet you at orientation. Some says he still sits there to this day~
Introducing Scott Coykendall! Scott is the Coordinator of Ascent along Meghan. He is also a professor of Communication and Media Studies. He used to be a faculty member who designed the original program, but now he coordinates the whole thing!
Scott is also a first generation student, who struggled with college at first. He was homesick, just plain sick, and missed many classes which caused him to originally fail almost every course. After transferring to a small school (like PSU), he did really well (I mean clearly he turned it around). This is why he is so passionate about Ascent. He wants to look out for his students, celebrate your success, and help you grow onto your right path!
Nothing will keep away our Ascent mentors! Not a thunder storm, not summer, and not covid!
What are Summer Ascent Mentors? Well we like to call them our Ascentors! Their jobs is to help incoming freshmen feel more at home, have an upperclassmen perspective, and to answer day to day questions! Overall they are a great helping hand in Ascent!
Meet Meghan Merritt Schaffer! She is the Ascent Program Co-Coordinator and a Student Success Coach here at PSU. She first began her journey at PSU in 2016. She has worked in Higher Education for 11 years, has lived in every New England State, and has two adorable kids!
Another Successful night :)
Now to get on with preparing for finals...
