The sequel of Noli Me Tangere.
The main idea of this novel focused on advocacy of Rizal to expose rampant abuse and corruption under Spanish government.

Although the direct translation of Noli Me Tangere in English is “touch me not”, the novel’s english version is entitled as “The Social Cancer”

Supposedly, Noli Me Tangere was composed of a total of 64 chapters. However, Chapter 25 which highlights the story of Elias and Salome was deleted from the novel for the sake of reducing printing cost.

Noli me Tangere is a novel that illustrates the Philippine society during the Spanish colonization and it highlights how rampant was the poverty and abuse caused by the colonialists.

Jose Rizal got his nickname “Pepe” from Saint Joseph since his mother was a devotee.
It is believed that in Latin St. Joseph was abbreviated P.P. which means Pater Putativus. Meanwhile, the letter p in Spanish was pronounced as “peh”.

José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda (Pepe) was born on June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna.
He was recognized as a national hero due to his reforms that inspired the Philippine revolution.
He was executed on December 30, 1896 for the crimes of rebellion at Bagumbayan.
