Good morning, Lion Nation families,
The National Weather Service increased the likelihood of severe storms this afternoon, and changed the most significant chance for severe weather to between 1 and 4 p.m. This includes the chance of strong winds, large hail, and tornadoes.
With the timing of this weather event coinciding with our dismissal times, we do not want student drivers and buses on the roads after 3 p.m. Due to an abundance of caution, we are dismissing students early today.
Middle school and high school students will be released at 12:50 p.m. and elementary students will be released at 1:30 p.m. This will ensure that our students are all able to make it home safely before the storms reach our area. All after-school activities are canceled.
The spring season brings us an elevated chance of severe weather, and it serves as a reminder to review severe weather safety plans at home. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, which is why we actively prepare for emergency situations in our schools.
Stay safe and dry, Lion Nation.
Dr. Jennifer Hecktor
Superintendent, Northwest R-I School District
