Louder Than a Bomb KC 2020 kicks off tonight with two bouts at the Johnson County Central Resource Library. We need five judges for each bout. No experience necessary. We do ask that judges not have a direct affiliation (and, therefore, potential bias) with a team in the particular bout. Teams are listed with on their bout's signup. Signups have been low this year. Please help where you can!

LTABKC's 6th Annual Slam Poetry Festival was uplifting and powerful right up to the last poem--specifically, Blue Valley North's Daniel Park's "C***k" performance, which is etched into LTABKC folklore. (You had to be there.)

Our deepest gratitude to all participating teams, their coaches, sponsors, teachers, and poets who continue to support LTABKC and the community it serves. The work they put in to keep this festival edgy, relevant, and transformative fuels the fire of our organization. From here, we are going up!

Further gratitude to the community organizations who support LTABKC by offering space for poets to be heard--Rockhurst University, Johnson County Library, Kansas City Public Library, Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, and the Black Archives of Mid-America. And a special acknowledgement of the American Jazz Museum's continued partnership with LTABKC.

The point is not the points; the point is the poetry. But we still need to shout out the judges who volunteered their focus for the excruciating task of assigning points to adolescent poetry.

Each year, LTABKC and the American Jazz Museum send the winning team to Brave New Voices, a national slam poetry event held this year in Las Vegas, July 17-20. Congratulations and well wishes to Sumner Academy of Arts & Science of Kansas City Kansas Public Schools who will be representing KC this year!
