Congratulations to Dakota Murray and Keyton Lumbreraz, placing 8th and 11th at the Blinn College Torch Cutting Contest. These two young men had some of the fastest times out of 80 students from around the state. Great job representing Kennard FFA!

Friday October 28th

If your kids plan on showing through Kennard FFA in the spring, the show entries meeting will be Friday October 28th at 7pm. Please have cash or checks ready to pay for entries at this meeting. All heifer exhibitors will need registration papers.

Join us for the Kennard FFA October Meeting on Thursday October 6th at 7:00pm in the Ag Building. There will be a pumpkin decorating contest with a prize going to the winner. Just a reminder that if any FFA Student wants to participate in Barnyard Day, they must attend 2 meetings before then. That only leaves, October and November.

Last week, Kennard FFA travelled to Fort Worth for the annual Texas FFA Convention. Lots of team building and leadership skills developed over the week. We also enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones!

Since we’ve finally been able to catch our breath around here, we wanted to share what Kennard FFA has been up to over the last 2 weeks.
Over spring break and this past week, FFA members travelled to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to exhibit their heifer, steer, and Ag Mechanics projects, and competed in Livestock Judging. As well as Rodeo Austin to calf scramble. Below are the results.

Kennard FFA President Preston Mooneyham and Treasurer Kortney Vandick represented the Kennard FFA at the 2022 San Antonio Jr Heifer Show. It was a quick trip and not quite the outcome we were hoping for but, great job to these exhibitors. Ya’ll always represent Kennard FFA well!!

What day in San Antonio for Kennard FFA members!! Chapter Vice President Mac Copaus, and Chapter Secretary Thomas Munsinger, competed in the 2022 SALE Calf Scramble. Both of these young men showed up today as alternates and were unsure if they were going to be selected to compete. Well luck was on their side to say the least!! Both members not only competed, but were 1st (Thomas) and 3rd (Mac) catch, earning an extra $200, and have been invited back for the finals on February 25th to compete for another $1800! Great job guys showing up and showing what Kennard Tigers are made of!! We’re so proud of ya’ll!!

Showing steers in the snow at Fort Worth… what an experience!! Kennard FFA members Addison Dowdy, Coy Smith, and Laney Smith, braved the snow and ice to exhibit their steer projects at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones. Congrats to each of our kids and we’re so proud of each of you representing Kennard FFA!! Keep up the good work!

Had a little excitement today during ag class when an Angus was out across the street from the school. Thanks to the help of Kennard FFA members Preston Mooneyham, David Barclay, Thomas Munsinger, Johnny Taylor, and Nathan Benavides; the bull was successfully returned to the correct pasture with no problems. Good job guys!!

What a way to kick off the spring show season for Kennard FFA! The first stop for the Show Team was the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Our chapter Reporter, Kaylin Parrish exhibited her light-weight market wether, Graham, on Sunday, placing 10th in class out of 50! During the heifer show on Monday, chapter President, Preston Mooneyham placed 10th in class with his Brahman heifer, Lady 4C 5; Junior member, Addison Dowdy placed 5th in class with her Brahman heifer, Lady 4C 4; and chapter Reporter Kaylin Parrish placed 8th in class with her Shorthorn-Plus heifer, Ivy. Congratulations on a fun and eventful weekend, we look forward to what the future holds for each of these FFA members and their projects!!

Our opening day bake sale is this Saturday. We will need any members and parents that are willing, to donate any baked goods like pies, cookies, and cupcakes! The officers and other members will be set up at Curry’s and Lakeside at 9:00 am to receive baked goods!

It was a busy week for Kennard FFA, between fundraisers and contests.
Wednesday, the Livestock Judging team travelled to Liberty, TX for the Trinity Valley Exposition where Jr team member Laney Smith was 27th high individual. Sr team members, Mac Copaus and Coy Smith also had a strong day sorting livestock.
Thursday, the Wildlife Management team travelled to Watersedge Encampment for the district qualifying contest. Team members, Preston Mooneyham, David Barclay, and Peyton Mooneyham were 3rd place FFA team in a very tough contest.
Good job to both teams, we’re so proud of each of you representing the Kennard FFA!!

Another great weekend of showing livestock at the Heart O’ Texas Fair!! Lots of hard work paying off for the Kennard FFA Show Team.

Preston Mooneyham was selected as the Reserve Champion Grey Brahman Heifer, winning a $250 scholarship. Addison Dowdy was 2nd in class with her Grey Brahman heifer and 7th in class with her Red Brahman heifer. Kortney Vandick was 10th in class with her Beefmaster heifer.

Congratulations to all three of you. We are so proud of each one of your accomplishments this weekend!
