Sara Hastings, a fifth-grade teacher from Angel Oak Elementary shared this idea. She read her students The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds to help introduce the idea of how students will be making their marks on the world. In order to help her students remember that anyone can change the world, Sara gave each student 2 sections of the circles to color in any way they wanted. She assembled their pieces into the dots you see in the photo.
We love sharing great ideas from our teaching colleagues, especially since we aren't easily able to get into one another's classroom. If you have a great idea to share - something that you do in your classroom, a procedure that is working, or a resource that's helpful, please send a description and photo to your Regional Teacher Effectiveness Specialist so we can share it! We may also feature it in our newsletter!

Izzy Stolper is a third grade teacher at Mount Pleasant Academy. She has created a positive classroom environment with the help of all of her students who have promised to attain these behavioral norms. If your classroom needs a reset as we are about to begin a new nine weeks, this might be a strategy to try in your class.

You are going to have days that you fail. Your lesson is going to flop. There will be a fire drill right when the students were just catching on. The real important part is how you reflect and move forward! That’s when the learning happens. THAT will make you a better educator!

18/09/2022

This!👏❤️👏❤️👏 Social emotional check ins are HUGE when it comes to teacher retention!

13/09/2022

Remember that amazing thing that we tell our students about failure? You know, the one where we tell them to use it as a learning opportunity?!?! Let’s take our own advice! The best lessons are sometimes learned with dirty hands, skinned knees, a few tears, and lots of mistakes. You got this! New week. Fresh start. 😉

Perspective. It is very overwhelming for a teacher to come in and feel like it is impossible to meet expectations for reasons beyond their control. Let us assist you with an onboarding plan for your alternative pathway teachers! 😉

24/08/2022

Shoutout to Ms. Holstein at CE North sending hand written postcards to all of her students! Thanks for going above and beyond!

24/08/2022

Beginning teachers- please know that you are not alone. This feeling is normal for ALL educators. It’s not because you are a new teacher or lack experience. You bring a lot to the classroom and us veterans learn a lot from you. Believe in yourself. Remember why you show up. Let your voice be heard. We are listening! 😉

23/08/2022

GIVEAWAY TIME!!!! Nominate your coworker by tagging them. We will choose one pair of coworkers at random to send a prize to!

22/08/2022

Coaching and Mentor tip! Control your advice monster! Sometimes teachers just want to be heard and talk it out. Give opportunities for them to work it out over telling them solutions or “I would” statements. Listening is the best way to really hear and understand what a teacher needs.
