Hey everyone, I have some announcements today.

Firstly, Kelly stepped down as secretary at our last meeting. I want to thank Kelly for all the mahi she put into the PTA; without all her hard work at the start and over the years, we would be in a very different place. So, thank you very much.

Secondly, I (Ryan) am stepping down as president. I am doing this to refocus my attention on the School board and my regional governance activities. I will still be around the school, so if you see me, please say Hi. I will miss you all, and I have such fond memories of everyone.

Peggy, as principal, has agreed to chair an Extra Special hui on Thursday, 16 November 2023 at 4.00pm where a new executive will be elected.

Please send all nominations to Peggy prior to the meeting would be appreciated.

Lastly, I would like us all to remember where this group initially started in 2017. At that point, we were called the Different Type of Perfect Parent Support Group and it was run by Kelly Dugan, an amazingly generous man. Sadly, he left the school, so we took this as a chance to reinvent ourselves. We renamed our group to the Caffeine and Cookie Club and had a couple more great years.
Then, in 2020, we established the Haeata Community Campus PTA.

In every stage, we have always tried to put student and whānau voices first, no matter their background. Which is something I'm very proud of.

I wish the PTA and Peggy the best of luck with future endeavours.

Thanks
Ryan

AWARDS FOR GIFTED LEARNERS NOW OPEN ✨ "Gifted doesn't have to be Maths, English and Science. It can be whatever you have a passion for. It could be the guitar or basketball, or technology," says Adele, Jarom's mum.

Jarom (Ngāti Pahauwera, Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāpuhi) has successfully applied for the Awards for Gifted Learners over the past few years, allowing him to explore his passion for STEM, including:

🤖 Robotics night classes at Waikato University (when he was nine!)
💻 Setting up a technology business (www.ajctech.biz), learning how to do everything from coding and setting up a website, to business planning and stock maintenance and distribution (GameBuds designed for gamers), and much more.

The two have also used the Awards for Gifted Learners funds to set up their own Young Entrepreneurs' Programme for 8-16 year olds to encourage them to follow their passions, and learn how to set up their own businesses.

"It's important to us to encourage others to have faith and confidence in themselves. Believing in yourself is the key driver in achieving anything," says Adele.

"In STEM, Jarom has often been the only Māori kid in the room, and I think sometimes people feel a bit whakamā / shy to try, because they think they are not good at maths. You don't have to be. Just be you."

APPLY TODAY
To find out more about the awards and how to apply, head to our website: https://gifted.tki.org.nz/further-support/awards/

Applications are open from 1 September to 9 October 2023.
