Meet Madee! Our third member of the Hombro a Hombro trio. Madee describes her experience her time working with Hombro a Hombro:

"After being evacuated from Panamá as a Peace Corps volunteer, I was left heartbroken. I yearned for an opportunity to connect with Panamá and to continue to give back to the country that had hosted and loved me for 14 months. So when Danielle proposed a peer mentorship program that connected educators across the world, joining was a no-brainer.

"It has been absolute joy learning from and working with Danielle and Morgan. Our team is a tapestry of constant innovation, creativity, and determination. Weaved in our work is our deep desire to promote progressive and sustainable change in education systems both in the United States and beyond.

"I have learned so much from educators from Perú, Spain, and, of course, Panamá about intercultural communication, student-centered teaching, project-based learning, and more. My hope is that Hombro a Hombro provides that opportunity on an even larger scale. To any educators out there, we would love for you to join us!"

Meet Morgan! Our wonderful coordinator that keeps Hombro a Hombro together. Morgan discusses her experiences in international development before Hombro a Hombro's launch, and her time with our organization:

"My experience in Panama as a Peace Corps volunteer profoundly shaped my interest in international education systems and highlighted the importance of intercultural exchange. Upon evacuation in 2020, when Danielle asked me to help form Hombro a Hombro, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to continue working at the intersection of education and exchange.

"With Hombro a Hombro, I use my skills in program design and management to coordinate the organization’s backend. Meanwhile, Madee and Danielle hold down the fort as our lead curriculum designers and facilitators.

"I am really proud of what the three of us have built as we use Hombro a Hombro to form bridges between teachers across the world. At the end of the day, we want a more inclusive, equitable educational ecosystem that supports teachers and students in understanding each other a bit better. We'd love for you to be a part of it!"

Four more days until our application launch!

Meet Danielle, our creative Hombro a Hombro Director. Danielle describes her experience in international development, and the ideas that sparked our organization:

"My passion for international education began in high school when a man who started a network of schools for girls in Central Asia gave a talk at my school. I had always wanted to teach, but I started learning more about how education is an incredibly powerful tool in creating a happier, healthier, safer world—and that’s the type of world I’d like to live in.

"My Peace Corps service was one way to explore international education, and I found myself looking for ways to get back involved in that realm after evacuation. I was inspired to start Hombro a Hombro because it was something that I could do basically for free and in my spare time—and honestly I was surprised there weren’t more programs like it out there! We’ve grown and changed since the original conception of the idea, and I’m so grateful for the ideas and support that our team has contributed. I’m excited to continue to grow our efforts to connect teachers across the world to help them reach their professional goals, as well as create relationships across borders and cultures."
