c) communication
d) culture
Building of global citizens
Do you believe it,
Teachers are question machines.
Seemingly, we ask 300 questions a day!!!
The focus of this approach is communicating ideas,
opinion, feelings etc using
the Bloom taxanomy as a guide
for tasks and activities.
I like that we integrate the content and language to develop higher order thinking skills in learners.
In this approach you encourage learners to observe, analyse, synthesize the subject matter/ cultural content and be motivated to communicate the knowledge they have on the subject.
Great way to create creative and critical thinking content that will motivate students to learn.
Hope you are able to use the lesson ideas given by the presenter.
I have enjoyed learning and hope to use the strategies shared.

Speaking is more than
saying words!
Indeed, a teacher has to think about ways to use speaking lessons not to get proof for learning but
use speaking lessons as
an opportunity to learn.
Speaking lessons are important for interaction, production, social, pragmatic and discourse purposes.
It has to have an action-oriented and collaborative approach.
The presentation introduced 3 framework to make speaking lessons more effective and meaningful.
Through this webinar, I had a better understanding on using the CEFR framework which is emphasized in our curriculum now.
Hope the sharing of the slides from the webinar will help you further think of your practices for speaking lessons in your own class.
I love the immersive task approach:
a) Lead-in : Questioning method
b) Preparation : Task
c) Decide
d) Discuss
e) Present
Life competencies Approach
a) Aims & Objectives : Identify the competencies
b) Problem-solving
- list suggestions
c) Reflect ( the different suggestions)
d) Share ( compare-contrast the suggestions )
I really enjoyed this webinar on Making sense of how we develop life competencies through ELT.
The speaker was knowledgeable and gave such a fantastic presentation of ideas.
I love the framework introduced
and how it can be used to find OPPORTUNITIES to build 21st century skills/ life skills for our learners.
This competencies encompass 3 components; knowledge, skills and attitude. Truly, we need a changed and shift mindset to create powerful and effective learning.
The framework is liken a map we can use to create opportunity for greater learning.
I am excited to use the framework for opportunistic learning to inculcate creative and critical thinking skills in our learners.
Today there were over 5K participants in this webinar on Activities to engage and motivate teenage learners.
It was a good one hour presentation of activities that can be used in a language class to motivate teen students.
Takeaways:
1. Have plans and aims
2. Profile your students and class
3. Activities
a) warmers
b) types of activities
- introductions
- two truths and one lie
- picture flash
- vocabulary
c) immerse task
- which I love as it is student-centred and allowing meaningful production. (eg. Think values, Talk to others )
4. Feedback: help make sense to the tasks
Conclusion:
To find success,
teachers have to
a) be positive (happy and engaging)
b) build trust
c) be mentor to their students
d) to have illusion of choice
To increase self-esteem and motivation, we need to build confidence and meaningful use of the language that connects to the values and beliefs of the learners.
Good to refresh ideas and find new ones to make teaching and learning effective.
I am loving the Cambridge University webinars.
