This is a great opportunity for Grades 1-8 to participate in a summer theater camp! This year they'll be putting on a performance of Little Mermaid Jr.

I cannot recommend this program enough for kiddos who are interested in experiencing theater during summer vacation!

We will be regrouping and discussing how to continue the conversation. The truth is Lakeshore Middle School does need replacing. We do need accessible playgrounds. We needed everything in that bond.

Ultimately, it’s the kids who lost. 😞

After anti-GHAPS folks illegally distributed misinformation trying to take down GH's bond proposal, Ottawa Impact's "Restoring Ottawa" supporters are complaining that school employees are illegally supporting the bond. Claims that are just more misinformation (read more in today's Tribune). There have been no credible claims of this happening. Can we ever expect honesty and integrity from these people or is every ballot on every issue just another opportunity push their opposition to forward-thinking schools and communities? Support your community, kids, and schools with your Yes vote on May 2.

More on the anonymous and likely illegal attack on GH schools' bond proposal. Beware of those who only have negative things to say about your district. They have their own agenda. No specific piano or amount of money has been designated for any piano.

GHAPS is not allowed to select any of that until the bond has passed.

If the funding is approved and if a portion of that funding was ultimately designated for a new piano at the high school, they would review many, many options and decide which is the best based on size, tone, availability, durability, cost, maintenance history, among other criteria.
While every pianist knows a Steinway would certainly be a top choice for many reasons, GHAPS cannot look at those options until the bond has passed.

How about those declining enrollment claims on the propaganda mailers & door hangers?

The truth is, it ties back to birth rates:
✔️In 1999, Ottawa County had 3,625 live births and a birth rate of 66.6 live births for every 1,000 people of age to give birth.
✔️In 2021, Ottawa County had only 3,160 live births for a birth rate of 50.7 live births per 1,000 people of age to give birth.
✔️That’s a 24% decrease in the birth rate

This is not an Ottawa County only issue. School districts across the state are showing lower enrollment numbers as the birth rate falls.

In fact, the enrollment trends at GHAPS follows state trends and outperforms many districts across the state.

So, GHAPS continues to be among the best among the state and country with enrollment rates that prove that.

Sometimes a replacement is the most fiscally responsible decision.

Did you know renovations on the current Lakeshore Middle School would cost 70% of the cost for a new build?

Any of us who’ve had kids at Lakeshore know that the current situation is not ideal for learning:
✔️Classrooms without windows
✔️Small classrooms that make collaboration difficult
✔️Boilers & HVAC are very old making for uneven heating
✔️No A/C which makes it hard not only on learning but is also incredibly hard on musical instruments
✔️Limited parking
✔️Rooftop not in ideal conditions
✔️Future repairs and maintenance will be more expensive due to the age of the building
