2019 Moving Up Day - Maypole Dance 13/10/2023

We are citizens of the world. We have more things in common than we have differences. For centuries, distances have been made shorter, to the point we don't know how peoples who didn't coexist at the same time, sometimes have incredible resemblances. Look at the maypole dance from Great Britain, dating from 1350-1400AD, it was practiced in Rome, and Germany. Nowadays practiced as Midsommerfest in Sweden (Scandinavia), "El baile del cordón" in Spain - which probably brought it to the Yucatan Peninsula where it became part of our regional dances - and it can also be found in other countries. like India. The world is interconnected, and language is our best tool to reach out to other cultures. 🌍🌎🌏

2019 Moving Up Day - Maypole Dance The Maypole Dance is performed every year by Rising 7th grade students as a culmination to the last day of school and end of the school year. The Maypole, wh...

We want to start the new semester with a positive note:

We are very happy to share with you the pictures of the 5th (now 6th) semester students from English B2.1 delivering the money raised on our first Ecological Bazaar!

All the profits from the bazaar were donated to a dog shelter and helped to pay the bills for the treatments of two furry friends!
Thank you all for coming to support this activity, and hopefully we will see more ENEP students making a difference in their consumption habits and helping those in need!

Congratulations to the organizing group and thank you again! 👏🐕🌟

We're all very proud of the students' creativity and of their desire to contribute to such a noble cause, as the cards will be delivered to people in shelters by Yucatan Giving Outreach, along with Christmas presents as part of their "Toys for Joys" program.

Thank you so much for all your support! And a Merry Christmas in advance! 🧑‍🎄🎅🎄🎁

How the Radical '60s and '70s Helped Make Father's Day a National Holiday 12/06/2022

On July 5, 1908, a West Virginia church sponsored the nation’s first event explicitly in honor of fathers, a Sunday sermon in memory of the 362 men who had died in the previous December’s explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah, but it was a one-time commemoration and not an annual holiday.
The next year, a Spokane, Washington, woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, one of six children raised by a widower, tried to establish an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. She went to local churches, the YMCA, shopkeepers and government officials to drum up support for her idea, and she was successful: Washington State celebrated the nation’s first statewide Father’s Day on June 19, 1910.
However, it was not until 1972 that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States.
Today, the day honoring fathers is celebrated in the United States on the third Sunday of June.

Mother's Day in the US
In the US, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May each year.
The idea started in America when a woman called Anna Jarvis held a small memorial service for her own mother on 12 May 1907.
Soon after, most places in America were observing the day and in 1914, the US president made it a national holiday, celebrated on the second Sunday of May.

The story of the Easter bunny l GMA Digital 15/04/2022

Easter is the most important Christian festival of the years - it's when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many Christians usually spend time at church in thought, prayer and celebration of Jesus Christ's life, and may get together with friends and family for a special meal. There are also some more modern traditions to mark Easter which are very common - such as Easter eggs, the Easter bunny and chocolate.
But where do these modern traditions come from?Originally, eating eggs was not allowed by church leaders during the week leading up to Easter (known as Holy Week). So any eggs laid that week were saved and decorated to make them Holy Week eggs, that were then given to children as gifts.
What's the Easter Bunny then?
The story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common in the 19th Century.
Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (called kittens), so they became a symbol of new life.
Legend has it that the Easter Bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.
This is why some children might enjoy Easter egg hunts as part of the festival.

Saint Patrick's Day Animated History 17/03/2022

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, and every year on the 17th of March Irish people all over the world have a huge celebration in his honor.
He was born in Wales which is just across the sea from Ireland. It was the Year 373, and the Romans still ruled that part of the world.
Many of the people in Wales and Ireland were Druids who worshiped the Sun and other aspects of nature. But Patrick was a Christian. When Patrick was 16 years old he was walking along the beach when some pirates seized him. They took him to Ireland and sold him as a slave, where he worked in the fields.
One day he heard God telling him to escape and he ran down to the sea where he found a ship waiting to take him home.
When he was grown up, he heard a voice calling on him to return to Ireland and to tell people there about Christianity, which is what he did.
Patrick travelled the length and breadth of Ireland and had many adventures while he spread his message.
Quite often the druid priests were very angry with him for telling their followers to change their religion and his life was always in great danger.
Ireland is a very rainy country and the fields are emerald green. One of the most common plants that grows among the grass is the Shamrock. it's like a small clover with three leaves. St. Patrick used to pick up the Shamrock and explained that the three leaves were the three aspects of God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
St. Patrick is also famous for driving all the snakes into the sea so that to this day there are no snakes lurking in the beautiful green grass of Ireland.
The Shamrock and the snakes are the most famous stories about St. Patrick.
