5 Ways For Seniors To Protect Themselves From Online Misinformation 17/01/2022

❗ Seniors are especially at risk. People over 65 were more likely to share false or misleading content on Facebook during the 2016 presidential campaign, according to one study from researchers at Princeton and New York University.

Older adults were also exposed to more misinformation on Twitter during that election.

Srushti Kulkarni is an Industrial Designer currently pursuing her MDes at the Emily Carr University of Art+Design with a particular interest in healthcare design. Having worked in India, on designing an emergency watch for senior citizens for two years, she has always been intrigued by the manner in which smart technology is persistently helping the older adult in advancing at the same pace as the evolution of technology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community." 👈

Pilot worskhops for seniors from 3 different villages took place in Poland. Seniors learned how to use their smartphones or tablets: how to change different settings, take photos, make films, write messages, download applications, use WhatsApp and much more. The best news is that they now like to play with their smartphones! :)

The workshops were organised by Fundacja Mapa Pasji

Digital Scams Part II: Seniors and Misinformation - Contra Costa Senior Legal Services 08/11/2021

❗Most seniors have heard the term fake news and are aware that the spread of misinformation online is a problem. While people of all ages fall victim to fake news, studies have shown that older adults are more vulnerable to fake news and digital misinformation.

💡 A study showed that Facebook users age 65 and older posted seven times as many articles from fake news websites as adults age 29 and younger.

✔️ Older adults are also less likely to be able to spot the difference between advertisements that are designed to look like real news stories and articles that are actual news stories.

All4Inclusion

"All4Inclusion" supports adult education teachers working with seniors in the conception and implementation of virtual learning activities

The main objectives of the All4Inclusion concept are:
1. Support for adult education teachers working with seniors in implementing virtual formats or semi-virtual formats into their courses
2. Promoting social integration of participants through collaborative activities
3. Promoting digital skills of participants

The Educational Pack, as the main outcome of the project, has been developed specifically for the target group of seniors and contains materials to achieve the above mentioned goals. It consists of six modules with motivating activities, that involve the use of various software applications, such as word processing, internet browsing, video chat, creation of blogs, podcasts and presentations, as well as spreadsheets.

In addition, the Educational Pack bundles good practice examples from the work of the participating organizations to motivate the target group of seniors to participate in virtual or semi-virtual formats.

In order to achieve these goals, the project consortium consisting of Leibniz University Hannover (Germany), A&A Emphasys Interactive Solution Ltd (Cyprus), A1 Community Works Ltd (UK), Aintek Symvouloi Epicheiriseon (Greece), Associacao Rede de Universidades da Terceira Idade (Portugal) and Fundacja Mapa Pasji (Poland) is developing:

- National reports to identify needs for action on the one hand and positive practical examples on the other hand in adult education from the perspective of educational institutions and recipients of adult education measures
- Strategies for accompanying research and evaluation of already existing adult education measures for seniors
- Strategies to increase the number of participants in adult education measures with regard to seniors
- Strategies for the qualitative further development of adult education measures with regard to seniors with a focus on digital competences (literacy, financial, numerical and digital competences).
- National and European policy recommendations for the implementation of the measures described above
