What if it's because... you're just not good enough?

“If children don't grow up knowing about and appreciating it, they will not understand it, and if they don't understand it, they won't protect it…
And if they don't protect it, who will?”
David Attenborough

What example are we setting for the next generation-
🥯🍑 with the food we eat and where it comes from,
🛍️🪡the way we spend our energy and our money,
🤔🌱the respect we show other living beings and ourselves?

How often do *we make time* to create a habit of ? 🚆 ⚖️ 🚗

If YOU and I can't learn to appreciate what we're losing, if YOU and I can't find the right way to bring it up in everyday conversation, if YOU and I keep taking more than we need while refusing to exercise delayed gratification for future generations, what is it that we really think we're capable of teaching the children from our "knowledge, , and "?

🌺Do we really hope to see them thrive?
☠️Or are we just preparing them for the inevitable, because we don't trust ourselves enough to make the sacrifices necessary to avoid a global catastrophe?

Having less children may not be a viable solution to the .

But having less children who don't care might.

Please talk to yours.
Tell them it's our fault and only we can fix this.

Want to know why I REALLY got into teaching English?
Was it because:
A. I whole-heartedly believed I’d be of vital support to people around the world hoping to maintain a competitive edge in an ever-more volatile (is this “white savior syndrome”)?
B. I had always loved the English language- it was my favorite class through all of grade school- and was looking for a way to integrate my passion into my work?
C. I had nothing better to do with my political science & international studies degree?
D. I was tired of hearing “no” after bombing interviews for positions I’d thought I was qualified to fill for six months?

Though to some degree, all answers may hold some truth, the answer I would give you is D.

And the problem was that I had never had to “sell myself”.
I had no idea what it meant to prepare for an interview besides reading the job posting thoroughly and learning more about the organization that was offering the position; I didn’t understand how to ensure that I felt ready to present myself as an asset.

The irony is, after five years of freelancing and despite feeling that in some ways, my work was making a difference, I needed the satisfaction of serving the people whose professions I saw were altering the entire landscape of , and so decided to start offering services to adult professionals in the and sectors, where I quickly found myself back in the very same situation I’d avoided for so long.
For the first several months in this new "niche", I was scheduling discovery calls with potential clients and making very few sales.

Too honest? Well friend, this is how business works.

And if you see any successful business owner out there with a robust client base and whose business looks like a well-oiled machine, I will be willing to bet money that if they didn’t come from a background, “selling themselves” (because *you* are necessarily a part of your services and your position) was one of their greatest challenges and it would have stopped them in their ambitious tracks if they had not already decided they were all-in.

And my reason for sharing this experience is this:

I want you to know how deeply I feel the frustration of knowing what you’re worth and not being able to convey that clearly in front of other people, because you’ve been taught not to talk too much about yourself, and consequently have no idea how to communicate your value.

And I would like to help you with this (yes, for free), especially (but not only) if you believe it is your lack of confidence in your English-speaking skills or your lack of English proficiency that is preventing you from fearlessly expressing your unique contributions and the quality of your work, your ability to get the job done, and how working with YOU positively impacts your clients, coworkers, and team members, your employers and the company, and ultimately, the industry as a whole.

The best feeling is serving a client who knows what they want and learning that they're happy with the services rendered- even if they come to you for help two days before the exam. 😅

We admire Talia for her confidence in her abilities and am looking forward to hearing her results!

If you have clear aims for your English practice and are ready to commit the time and it takes to get the score you need, reach the right people or make the right impressions, and communicate the value of your ideas and contributions through greater English proficiency, we welcome your inquiries any time.

4-year-old sandals🩴finally gave in but they have had a good ride. Problem became I was without shoes in the streets for a few blocks (yes indeed, until I found a " ").

In my younger days, that didn't bother me as much. I thought I was a free spirit and needed no bindings to my feet. 👣

But I won't get explicit about the mess you find in the street nowadays and it is scientifically proven that you can contract parasites by walking (Citation needed;🌳 it),

🍾 not to mention all the goons leaving/allowing their glass to break in the street (and the next time you look at someone with no shoes, imagine how they feel about your seemingly-ridiculous habits)
🔨 👷 Nails from poorly-kept construction sites
💩 YOUR DOG'S P**P (please stop acting savage, look at all the disease-borne illnesses from poor urban sanitation)

And I had to make the decision to walk to the bus station , ride the bus and wait for the second bus shoeless,

invest in proper attire (which personally, requires a full day's of effort, multiple shops, and hasn't happened in years 👞)

OR

Buy some cheap .

And with them, as if the situation weren't already shameful enough, all of this .

I admit that despite knowing very well that accounts for over 70 percent of global , and I claim to be a , sometimes...

I make the wrong choices.

I wish all of my fellow more peace in admitting we- you, me, the authorities, the businesses owners, corporate, everyone- have some (and if you're actually reading this, probably a significant) degree of blame to share in where we've come.

I also wish forgiveness of those who actually don't have a role in the destruction of our planet. You'll probably never read this.

💚 The people who have learned to live in perfect harmony with Mother Earth 🌎 from birth or otherwise, who look at us as if it isn't clear as day what lies ahead for us if we continue down this road.

Forgive us.

⭐ What do you do at/on the weekends?
(for , we use "at", but y'all found yourselves a good ol' coach and we use "on")

⭐ Do you practice your English, or take the days off?
⭐ On which days do you usually practice?

Remember that "at" is used for more specific times, "on" is used for dates and days (which is probably why Americans use it for weekends) and "in", for longer lengths of time *+ in the morning/in the afternoon*.

Bonus question!
Are you:
a. interested in English
b. interested on English

It's National Parks Week!
And since uni graduations are just a few weeks away, as I know from experience that sometimes it’s hard to grow up, I want to share a personal story with you about (recommendations for grads in comments).

Somewhere around 10 years ago, a few months after graduating from (go, Rams, go), I was a professional providing in-home care to people affected by .
I’d had the job a while but it had nothing to do with my degree in /international studies, so I decided to join the Vermont Youth Corps (also having nothing to do with my degree) in a state I’d never visited or known anything about, to live in a tent ⛺ so that we could break rocks and attend leadership meetings, to work better together to break more rocks, and to rebuild and pave paths and to dig and unclog ditches and mark trails in the of state and national 🌳 , where I learned a lot about the subculture of in the NE region, and where we met and worked alongside members of the US , to improve to trails and raise awareness of the available in the area.

I was part of the Leadership Crew (the oldest by far of any of the crew members but “ ” is a loose term) and I had group who’d made ascents through the 🏔 mountains of Alaska, who went on to fight fires 🔥 in California, who started their own businesses and joined organizations where they were able to devote themselves to the causes they believed in, who lived in the wide open spaces I'd had yet to discover...

And it was sometime around then that the terror- of finishing school, of no longer being a student but rather an unexperienced drop 💧 in the ocean of job-hunters competing for 40-hour work weeks, health insurance, and two weeks paid vacation a year in exchange for our souls, when all I really wanted to do was keep learning, keep exploring- started to fade away, and I realized that what it means to "find work in the age of globalization" wasn't as scary as I'd thought; that I was wrong.

The world was at my fingertips, just as it is at yours

💥 They're back! 💥 Free conversation/networking sessions for (17SDGs) supporters will start up again next month

Please remember that these are *not* English lessons, nor do we spend time reviewing grammar, syntax, word-usage, etc.

✅ Rather, they are open spaces for you to connect and participate in the discussion of trending topics within the context of and with other professionals who want to share their knowledge and expertise in climate solutions, social impact, community engagement, youth involvement, policy-making, and the likes.

🌏 Ideally, this will open up more opportunities for you to work together and collaborate on shared professional or personal objectives in the future.

My hope as an English coach and host of these sessions is for those who are shy about speaking up to find dependable conversation practice partners among the participants
I also offer this as an extra bonus to current program participants for a morale boost when the program starts getting more intensive 😁

Thank you for sharing if you think friends within your circle might like to join us

💚 And if you've ever attended before, please leave a comment to show your support!
