🇺🇸 S&P Global US Manufacturing PMI (Feb) 14:45 GMT

The Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) gauges the level of activity among purchasing managers within the manufacturing industry. A score above 50 signifies growth in the industry, whereas a score below 50 suggests a decline. Market traders pay keen attention to these surveys because purchasing managers often gain early insight into their company's performance, serving as a precursor to broader economic health. Readings that exceed expectations are generally viewed as favorable or bullish for the USD, while readings that fall short are seen as unfavorable or bearish for the USD.

Forecast: 51.5
Previous: 50.7

The S&P Global US Manufacturing PMI (Purchasing Managers' Index) impacts the financial markets in several key ways, reflecting the health and trends within the manufacturing sector, which is a critical component of the economy. Here's how it influences the financial markets:

Economic Health Indicator:
Since the manufacturing sector is a major component of the economy, the PMI provides valuable insights into the overall economic health. Investors and analysts closely watch PMI readings to gauge economic trends.

Monetary Policy Implications:
Central banks, like the Federal Reserve in the United States, consider PMI data when making decisions about monetary policy. Strong PMI readings might lead to tighter monetary policy to curb inflation, while weak readings could prompt looser policy to stimulate growth.

Market Sentiment:
The PMI can influence investor sentiment, as it reflects underlying economic conditions. A rising PMI can boost confidence in economic growth prospects, potentially lifting stock prices and the value of the currency. Conversely, a falling PMI may dampen sentiment, leading to declines in stock prices and currency value.

Sector-Specific Impacts:
Companies within the manufacturing sector, and industries related to manufacturing, can be directly impacted by changes in the PMI. A higher PMI can signal increased production and profitability for manufacturing and related sectors, while a lower PMI can indicate the opposite.

Currency Markets:
The PMI can influence the value of the U.S. dollar in the currency markets. A robust PMI reading suggests a strong manufacturing sector, which can attract investment from abroad, increasing demand for the dollar and thus its value. Conversely, a weak PMI may lead to a decrease in demand for the dollar, reducing its value.

Overall, the S&P Global US Manufacturing PMI is a vital economic indicator that can have a broad impact on financial markets, influencing everything from stock prices and bond yields to currency values and central bank policies, making it a closely watched indicator by investors, analysts, and policymakers alike.

🗞 Market News:

🚀 Bitcoin
BTC/USD Outlook: Rapid bullish momentum approaches the key $60,000 psychological threshold.

Bitcoin's upward trajectory persists, marking its fifth consecutive day of gains, with a notable surge in bullish momentum over the last three days, during which the cryptocurrency's price soared by nearly 15%.
Bitcoin (BTC) broke past two milestones, the $55,000 level on Tuesday and the $60,000 psychological level on Wednesday. The latest move has seen almost $300 million in total liquidations.

The price of Bitcoin continues to hold strong above the psychological threshold of $63,000, with prospects for further increases as momentum grows. With the Bitcoin halving event drawing near, the likelihood of BTC reaching its previous high of $69,000, seen on November 10, 2021, remains high.
To potentially challenge its all-time high of $69,000, the price of Bitcoin needs to surpass and maintain a position above $63,329, which is the central point of the supply zone ranging between $62,905 and $65,664. Currently, Bitcoin's price is roughly 10% lower than its peak value.

The recent rally in Bitcoin has been primarily fueled by significant long positions from major investors, spurred by a substantial increase in demand following the approval of a new US spot Bitcoin ETF.
The bullish sentiment remains strong, as Bitcoin approaches the key psychological threshold of $60,000, positioning it for substantial monthly gains of approximately 40%, the largest since October 2021.

A finite number of Bitcoins, capped at 21 million, can ever be created, with over 19 million already in circulation. The final Bitcoin is anticipated to be mined around the year 2140. The timing of the next halving event, which reduces the block reward for miners, is not precisely known but is projected to occur in mid-April. Bitcoin's blockchain is designed to halve the mining reward every four years, or after every 210,000 blocks. The initial reward of 50 BTC has been systematically reduced to the current 6.25 BTC, and it will decrease to 3.125 BTC at the forthcoming halving. This mechanism slows down the creation of new Bitcoins.

In summary, Bitcoin has continued its upward trend for the fifth consecutive day, experiencing a significant 15% price increase over the last three days. It surpassed the $55,000 mark on Tuesday and went beyond the $60,000 psychological level on Wednesday, leading to nearly $300 million in liquidations. The cryptocurrency's price is now stable above $63,000, with potential for further gains, especially with the upcoming Bitcoin halving event which could push the price towards its all-time high of $69,000. The next halving event, expected in mid-April, will further reduce the mining reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, potentially influencing Bitcoin's value and creation pace.

🔥 📣 Today!
🇺🇸 Core Durable Goods Orders (MoM) (Jan) 13:30 GMT

Core Durable Goods Orders reflect the variation in the total value of new orders placed for goods that are meant to last for an extended period, but without including transportation-related products. This exclusion, particularly of aircraft orders which can significantly fluctuate, offers a more accurate insight into the overall trend of orders. An increase in this measure suggests a rise in manufacturing activities.
If the Core Durable Goods Orders exceed expectations, it is generally seen as a favorable or bullish signal for the USD. Conversely, if the reading falls short of forecasts, it should be interpreted as an unfavorable or bearish indicator for the USD.

Forecast: 0.2%
Previous: 0.6%

The U.S. Core Durable Goods Orders significantly affect the financial markets for several reasons:

Economic Indicator:
The data is a key economic indicator that reflects the health of the manufacturing sector. A rise in orders suggests increased production and economic growth, which can boost investor confidence in the economy's overall health.

Currency Value:
As mentioned earlier, stronger than expected durable goods orders can be bullish for the USD, as it indicates a strong economy, potentially leading to higher interest rates to control inflation. Conversely, weaker data can lead to a bearish outlook for the USD, as it may signal economic slowdown and lower interest rates.

Equity Markets:
Positive data can boost stock markets, particularly shares of manufacturing and industrial companies, as it indicates potential increases in production and earnings. Negative data, however, may dampen stock market sentiment, especially for sectors directly impacted by manufacturing and capital goods.

Bond Markets:
The bond market is also affected, as stronger economic indicators like rising durable goods orders can lead to expectations of higher inflation and interest rates, affecting bond prices inversely. Conversely, weaker data may lead to lower interest rate expectations, potentially making bonds more attractive.

Investment and Business Planning:
It provides valuable insights for businesses and investors regarding the economy's direction, influencing investment and strategic business planning. Companies may adjust their inventory levels, investment in new projects, or hiring based on durable goods order trends, affecting various sectors differently.

In summary, the U.S. Core Durable Goods Orders data provides critical insights into the manufacturing sector's health and overall economic activity, influencing investor sentiment, monetary policy expectations, and the valuation of the USD, stocks, and bonds.
By excluding transportation, the core figure offers a clearer view of the business investment component of economic activity, making it a closely watched data point for economists, investors, and policymakers. It helps in assessing the strength of the domestic economy, guiding monetary policy decisions, and influencing financial market movements.

🔥 📣 Today!
🇺🇸New Home Sales (Jan) 15:00 GMT

The New Home Sales report provides an annualized estimate of the volume of new single-family homes sold in the previous month. Its significance often increases when published before the Existing Home Sales report, due to their close correlation.

When the figures exceed expectations, it is generally viewed as a favorable or bullish indicator for the U.S. dollar. Conversely, numbers falling short of forecasts are seen as unfavorable or bearish for the U.S. dollar.

Forecast: 680K
Previous: 664K

The U.S. New Home Sales report significantly affects the financial markets, particularly because it serves as a key indicator of economic health in the United States. The impact is observed in several ways:

Housing Market Sentiment:
New Home Sales data directly reflects the health of the housing market, a major component of the U.S. economy. High sales numbers indicate strong demand, positive consumer confidence, and a robust economy, which can boost investor sentiment towards real estate and related sectors.

Interest Rates and Monetary Policy:
The Federal Reserve monitors this data closely as part of its assessment of the overall economic condition when making decisions about interest rates. A consistently strong New Home Sales report could lead to higher interest rates to combat potential inflation, affecting mortgage rates, consumer borrowing costs, and investment flows.

Currency Value:
As noted, a higher-than-expected New Home Sales report is generally seen as bullish for the U.S. dollar (USD) because it signifies economic strength. Investors might prefer holding assets in a rising economy, leading to increased demand for the USD. Conversely, lower-than-expected figures can weaken the USD as they may signal economic slowdowns.

Stock Market:
Companies directly tied to the housing market, such as construction, home improvement retailers, and mortgage lenders, can see their stock prices affected by New Home Sales data. Positive data can lead to stock price increases in these sectors, while negative data can have the opposite effect. Furthermore, because this report can influence overall market sentiment regarding the economy's health, it can also have broader implications for the stock market.

Bond Markets:
Strong housing data can lead to higher yields in the bond market, especially if investors expect the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates in response to economic strength. This is because higher interest rates can lead to lower bond prices, prompting investors to demand higher yields for new issues.

In summary, the U.S. New Home Sales report is a critical economic indicator that can influence financial markets through mechanisms affecting interest rates, currency values, investor sentiment, and sector-specific stock performance.
