Childcare Registration
There’s no expiry date on a DBS. However, we recommend that you sign up for the DBS Update Service (this costs £13 per year for each person) and encourage any assistants you employ to do the same.
Joining the DBS update service means that Ofsted will be able to check your ongoing suitability and that of any assistants you employ, and will be able to ask for a repeat DBS if the person’s criminal record has changed.
Please help us improve this service by filling in this quick survey

petition.parliament.uk Childcare has recently faced huge increases in business rates for their properties. Coupled with this, they pay VAT on purchases but are unable to reclaim this to offset against the business. Along with increased minimum wage, pensions, and 30 hours funding this is leaving them financially unstable.

In the news: The latest 'About Early Years' annual report from Ceeda, released yesterday, compared funding rates against delivery costs and found a £600m gap for settings delivering both ‘free’ entitlements.
The analysis finds that the average cost of early education and childcare for two-year-olds is now £6.90, 32 per cent more than the average funding rate paid to PVIs for these places. For three- and four-year-olds, average hourly costs are now 17 per cent higher than average funding rates. The total impact of this is a funding deficit of £616.5 million, the report finds. Neil Leitch, Alliance chief executive, commented:
“Successive ministers have turned their heads as providers have queued up to tell them how they’re struggling to balance the books. But it’s here in black and white. The more than £600m shortfall in funding has meant childcare providers and practitioners are losing their livelihoods, while disadvantaged families are increasingly at risk of missing out on high quality childcare.”
