HE Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera writes:

My State of the Nation address when opening the 4th meeting of 50th Session of Parliament was a deep dive into the affairs of a country that is emerging strongly from years of turmoil.

Recovery is now happening. The strides we have made in key sectors such as Agriculture, Tourism and Recreation, Mining, Infrastructure Development, Water and Sanitation and Social Services are indicative of a country with a serious turnaround development agenda.

Mindful of the political, climatic and fiscal pressures, I have since called for seriousness from every Malawian in our collective quest to actualise the triplicate of food security, wealth creation and job creation as drawn in the Malawi Vision 2063.

We will build on this progress to keep our recovery going.

*Youths in the country urged to work hard and be visionary*

By Kondanani Chilimunthaka

National Director of Youth in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Richard Chimwendo Banda has urged Malawi Congress Party Youths and youths across the country to work hard and be visionary for the better future of the party and the nation at large.

Speaking during the meeting he held with Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Bunda campus MCP wing on Saturday, 28th January, 2023, Chimwendo encouraged the students to work hard in their studies in order to become responsible citizens for the country.

Chimwendo commended the wing for being a shining example of students political wings in the country.

Further, Chimwendo who is also Minister of Youth and Sports assured the students that internship program will continue for University graduates, adding that President Chakwera has raised the students welfare and that the President has above all increased the number of beneficiaries to the loan facility program which has reduced challenges some students have been encountering to access better education.

Said Chimwendo; "During Kamuzu time, Bunda was really Bunda, you know how students' welfare was prioritized. All these years there was nothing happening, when Chakwera came into power, he found 13,000 students receiving loans, but he has raised that to 22,000. Apart from that, he has raised students' welfare from K250,000 to K350,000."

Chimwendo then reminded the students that President Lazarus Chakwera found a lot of mess in government when he was voted into power and that he is slowly rebuilding the nation from the mess, and that it is at the foundation level from the ruins.

In his remarks, President for LUANAR MCP wing, Romeo Soko thanked Chimwendo Banda for his continued support being rendered to the wing. Soko also commended Chakwera-led administration for prioritizing the students welfare.
