This is a picture from a testing of an activity in Denmark with a school class. Besides the two teachers from FO-Aarhus, the activity involved 20 pupils and 2 teachers from a local school.

💦The activity is from module 4:
Caring for Water and is about water and water pollution. The pupils were asked to build a house or a city that ensures full utilization of the water resources, while also making sure that the water is not polluted.

🧒On the photo, the pupils have built a waterwork, which has the primary function of purifying the water from the underground and turning it into drinking water. The waterwork makes sure that the inhabitants of the city have access to drinking water rather than unpurified water.

🏢All wastewater from the area runs to the waterwork instead of sinking into the ground, and the wastewater is then reused for watering plants, avoiding wildfires, and for flushing the toilet – i.e., functions that are necessary but do not need drinking water. In this way, drinking water is secured, while also utilizing the wastewater.

During the summer, the project partners have been preoccupied with testing the activities from the handbook.

🍃♻️🌱More than 500 children have been involved in the testing in the five partner countries, which has covered all five modules in the handbook: The Theory of Ian McHarg on Environmental Planning, Trees and Forests, Health Benefits of Urban Ecology and Human-Nature Connection, Caring for Water, Connectivity and Animal Migration, and Urban Agriculture.

🍀It has been a real pleasure working with the children and seeing how their imagination sparks when presented with the LEGO bricks. The children have come up with interesting new solutions to environmental issues on all the topics during the workshops – stay tuned, as some of them will be introduced in the coming weeks!

🧱Lego bricks are a powerful tool to promote learning through playing.

💡📢It is specially powerful in developing several soft skills on children, such as self-esteem, problem-solving, creativity, decision making or stress management. Nowadays, such skills are essential in a fulfilling and rich personal and professional development, which enhance the relevance and potential of playing with Lego bricks in a pedagogical context.

11/06/2022

🧱Playing with LEGO bricks might be more than just funny. In our project, kids can create models that resemble cities. We invite them to recreate what a city looks like, in their imagination, encouraging them to reflect on land planning and environmental problems such as floods, fires, landslides, droughts and others.

🌍The usage of natural resources and city planning go hand in hand, and the sooner the conscious of this relationship, the better the education!

🌳Beyond Urban Limits - Trees and Forests

🌎By mixing LEGO bricks with creativity and some imagination we can create super fun activities about a sustainable and a wildlife-thriving territory.

LEGO bricks allow us to create dynamics that mimic nature and its interactions. This way it is possible to enrich our educational methods, deliver knowledge about the importance of healthy ecosystems and get children closer to nature.

🧱Using Lego bricks as working tools is not only for children!

🌍This week, the project, from the Município de Lousada organized a workshop for adult educators in Lisbon, Portugal. Over 130 participants used Lego bricks to express their views for more sustainable and emotionally-friendly schools. Everyone was thrilled and excited to continue using this methodology in their pedagogical practice.

🏆Every year the European Commission’s “European Green Capital Award” is given to a city which is leading the way in environmentally friendly urban living. The award recognizes the local efforts to improve the environment, and thereby the economy and the quality of life in cities.

🌲This year the award was given to Grenoble in France which relies on urban regeneration and
rehabilitation, efficient public transport and quality public spaces.

🟦🟥🟩🟨🟧"The LEGO Foundation works with the concept of “Learning through play”.

🌱This is an effective learning approach which can empower children to become creative, engaged, lifelong learners with skills that can serve them, their communities and society. This is essential in the 21st-century reality which we live in.

✔️ Тhe training in the frame of the project "Designing with Lego: Eco cities of tomorrow" was held from 21.03.2022 to 24.03.2022. At the international training participated teachers and educators from five countries - Cyprus, Germany, Portugal, Denmark, and Macedonia in Leipzig, Germany.

✔️ During the sessions, games for implementation were implemented in schools using Lego bricks - capacity building for ecology through play. The whole process took place in 6 modules with 3 experiments each. Each team presented one module.📍‼️♻️

The project is supported by the Erasmus+ program. 🇪🇺

👉Build the Change is a powerful way for children to express
their hopes and dreams for the future with LEGO® bricks and
other creative materials, plus their own imagination.

And it’s all done via Learning through Play!
Regarding that, was realized a workshop.

The students in the primary school "Kocho Racin" - Ohrid under the mentorship of the teacher Natasha Nedanoska conducted a test workshop using Lego bricks. At the beginning of the workshop, the presentation and the process of making Lego bricks were presented
The students made various crafts such as a flower pot, a beehive and a stork bird. ✅

👉Last week, 5 teachers and environmental experts met at Synthesis premises for the testing of handbook activities developed in the context of our Youngsters4EcoCities project. 🌿🌏
✍The project is currently using Lego bricks as educational tools and methods to enhance pupils' knowledge around sustainable cities, communities and building with nature. 🏠
🤓We are really proud to collaborate with Foley's School and Γυμνάσιο - Λύκειο Ολύμπιον to roll-out more activities and give teachers and pupils the opportunity to use their imagination to design the eco-cities of tomorrow.

👉🌍The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)born at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in 2012.

The purpose was to produce a set of universal goals that would help combat the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges facing our world. Unlike their predecessor, the Millennium Development Goals, the SDGs explicitly call on all businesses to apply their creativity and innovation to solve sustainable development challenges.

🌸 Creativity starts with imagination!
👉That's the basic principle of our Youngsters4EcoCities project which envisions to develop pupils' environmental skills 🌱and teach them how to design with nature by using Lego bricks.
🎉During the second partner meeting in Aarhus, we had the opportunity to visit DOKK1 multipurpose library which imagine there a special space that covered the SDG's goals.
Also, was visited Legoland to get inspired for our future workshops!

🔆 SDG13: Climate Action 🌏

🔊 Climate change is a real and undeniable threat to our entire civilization. The effects are already visible and will be catastrophic unless we act now. Through education, innovation and adherence to our climate commitments, we can make the necessary changes to protect the planet. These changes also provide huge opportunities to modernize our infrastructure which will create new jobs and promote greater prosperity across the globe.
