The Ambari Stone Inscription of Samudrapala, dated 1154 Śaka (1232 CE), was discovered in the campus of the Assam Textile Institute in Guwahati by labourers working on the foundation. The inscription mentions a powerful sattra institution in Yogihāti, a part of the Kingdom of Samudrapala, where rituals were performed. Found under the supervision of Shri Murarai Charan Das, the then Director-in-Charge of the Directorate of Archaeology & Museums, Assam, the inscription is partially worn and features characters in mixed Brahmi, Devanagari, and old Assamese scripts. The inscription is currently housed in the Assam State Museum, Guwahati.
The painstaking task of deciphering the text was undertaken by research scholar, Sri Bibhuti Pachani. Dr. P. C. Chowdhury, Director of the Department of Historical and Antiquarian Studies, Assam, further refined the readings and published them in the Journal of Indian History (Vol. XIVIII, Part I, April 1970), along with a brief note on its historical significance. As published by Dr. Chowdhury, the text reads:
“आदित्यसम श्रीसमुद्रपालराज्ये । प्रवलसवासिकसत्र सगुणक्रिया । सन्न्यासीन् बोले दानपुण्य सज । योगीहाती । शक ईश वाणचक्र । मूढ़ भणति ।”

Orogeny literally means the creation of mountain ranges. This term is often used in this sense because tectonic processes occurring in orogenic regions generally also produce topographic elevations.
This is a response to crystal thickening caused by performing compressive efforts and adding magma to the continental crust. Because crystal rocks are less dense than mantle rocks, thickening causes a surface to emerge (this process is called isostasia). However:
.
(1) mountain chains may form in the absence of compressive efforts, as in the case of crystal taming associated with mantle feathers. The topography, in this case, is not the result of mass anomalies in the lithosphere, being called dynamic topography.
.
(2) efforts may not be enough to produce significant relief, as in the case of the addition prism on some island arches.
.
(3) ancient orogenic regions may no longer present any topographical expression, due to erosive processes.
