Impact - Why? What? How?
It seems that is one of the big buzzwords of our time in the bubble of change-makers and transformation-seekers 😎
But what exactly is impact? Why is it important? What are the current discourses around it and why do they deserve critique? How does one create impact and how to measure long-term systemic change & transformation - if that is even possible?
How can we avoid that ‘impact-oriented organization’ or creating ‘impact projects' becoming just another way we would wash our consciousness clean without actually engaging in the challenging deep work of attempting to create something other than the status quo?
And, of course, the constant question of where in the system are we trying to intervene with our actions and solutions (Thanks for giving us a shared language Donella Meadow’s with your ) (https://lnkd.in/dM5xeWxp)
Those were some of the many questions and beautiful conversations we had with Alexa Böckel, who was the perfect practitioner to speak with as her research at Leuphana University of Lüneburg is next to Circular Economy the theme of impact. Thank you for bringing insightful input & yourself to Team 1, it was a really inspiring session where the thinking in our heads almost became visible!
https://lnkd.in/dM5xeWxp
We are so lucky to have many inspiring come to share their work and experiences as well as activistic practices with the Learners from our 1-Year Programme - like Kai Paludan-Müller, Emil Kragh, and Andreea Toma from cirka cph! 🙌
Here are a couple of insights they gathered after hosting a 2-Day workshop with Team 1:
"🟢 Effective climate action oftentimes relies on support and collaboration with diverse stakeholders across civil society, business, governments, and more.
😐 But this diversity can also contain friction and conflict, which comes with risks of alienation and obstruction.
🎨 If we can remain curious and empathetic, however, there are often more nuances and even shared solutions to be found.
🌍 That's easier said than done, especially in a situation that can feel urgent and overwhelming.
🎯 That’s why this workshop was all about practice - finding common ground and shared solutions, through building and role play.
🥳 Team 1 ultimately reached their Paris-aligned goal, using the Climate Interactive global policy simulator."
Thank you so much for your time, your presence, and your ability to lift our Learners experience to a place where they see their growing capacities as they practice leading systemic activistic interventions!
🗣️ An Evening with Lisa Jaspers: A Visionary Activist
In the context of our 1-Year Leadership in Systemic Activism Programme, Team 1 has taken on the assignment to self-organize small input sessions in order to learn from and be inspired by activists & their actions to leverage change (shout out to J. Andrea Castillo Jacob & Rebeca Lissa for making it happen!)
Our special guest for the first open evening event is Lisa Jaspers, co-founder of FOLKDAYS, a remarkable entrepreneur, activist, and author. Lisa has transformed the image of ethical consumption in Germany and has been a driving force in demanding corporate accountability through her petition. Her co-authored book, 'Starting a Revolution," offers fresh insights into the future of business.
We would really like this session to be open for anyone from the wider community in order to connect with you as we listen to Lisa sharing her journey, experiences, and vision for a more sustainable and equitable world!

“Imagination is the ability to look at things as if they could be otherwise” (John Dewey)
And that many things better be otherwise is something not only many wish for, but even more are actively working towards!
That our incredible ability to imagine is something we can train and practice is what we one month ago were so lucky to learn with Ane Winding Nordestgaard & Vera Mosbæk Ipsen from Kaospilots Team27, who in the context of their final project are working with how to practice imagination as a way to grow our capacities for transformation.
During a 2-Day Workshop, they explored the imaginary worlds alive and maybe until then unexplored of Team 1, built universes which they invited each other into. Universes, that hold possible answers to how our future(s) may look, universes to be inspired by!
Thank you so much for sharing your craft and explorations with us!
What Team 1 has been up to from January to March 2023 you might wonder?
They went on individual projects, their 'Real World Project', where they challenged themselves in order to and in the direction of their choice. And, to learn from and sources of in their field of choice - with individuals, initiatives, and organizations.
When sharing their findings during intensely beautiful evaluation days some turned into tangible that now hang in our learning space, to remind us what we now, by experience, know!
And we want to share some of these insights with you:
😍 Creating gives you power
💜 Radical rest is needed
👀 Knowing your values (can) make your life easier
🤳 Communication and support systems are key
💭 Reflection is precious and needed for learning
💨 Change is something many people don’t like
🍭 It’s easy to get lost in the real world
🎭 Planning looks different for different people
🦋 Knowing how to lead yourself helps to lead others
🕳 Fear is sometimes a vague image and can actually be nothing once you look inside it
🤚 Time is one of the biggest stress factors in activism/meaningful projects - but it is also just a human concept we can deconstruct and reclaim
😎 Everyone is right, but only partially
Team 1’s inspiring different learning journeys for sure have in common that each of them in their own way has had the courage to in their project re-invent their direction, to stay put when it was tough, and to share their projects so honestly with their peers!
MEET OUR MAGNIFICENT MENTORS!
With this post, we would like to share our gratitude to this generous & inspiring group of people who have been supporting the learners from Team 1 in the last couple of months!

We could not do this without you!!
Join this very interesting Online Event on Wednesday, 2nd of November, where our Co-Founder Edda Kruse Rosset is invited to talk about how educational places like Kaospilot+ Berlin allow learners to acquire needed !
What’s been cooking in our Leadership in Systemic Activism Programme in October? 🌿
Half of Team 1 joined the unique 30-year celebration from KAOSPILOT in Aarhus, sensing the place of origin and experiencing the complexities that brought forward the education and community they are now connected with. And, exploring what makes the culture & practices of a place as well as why we do what we do.
Back in Berlin, Team 1 was introduced to Systemic Thinking & Complexity, by Federico Bortoletto - kickstarting a common journey of making sense of those wide and yes, complex concepts & ways of perceiving reality & our actions! Thank you, Federico! 🌿
Ana Milbo Schoeps visited us that week too, offering facilitated experiential sessions and hosting regenerative team coaching to team leaders Edda Luisa Kruse Rosset & Fenna van der Ploeg. Thank you for sharing your craft! 🌿
The highlight was Team 1’s sharing day of their first project, their so-called Project! 💫
The 4 different project groups presented their exploration of a cause they care for, how they served a group or community & tried to make a small change in a given context.
Themes & challenges explored were & Practices, how to work with and hierarchies, how to create spaces & moments of for deeper , and how to support unheard voices in being heard!
It felt meaningful to end the sharing of activism projects day by going to listen to no one other but who spoke at an event marking “10 years since the establishment of the Oranienplatz protest camp (…) by refugees and activists, a critical moment in the history of the refugee resistance movement.” https://lnkd.in/eTWVszZx
How else could we learn from all these experiences without reflection? We might not, so we had our first collective Reflection Week!
💫 Day 1: Reflections on the project and the group's collaboration!
💫 Day 2: Personal reflections on main insights and learnings - big thank you to Ditte Koefoed Staalgaard Nielsen from Team 28 for co-designing & facilitating the day, and gifting Team 1 with a beautiful song collaged out of poem-pieces they authored!
💫 Day 3: focus on Team 1 as a system & what it means to be part of a learning collective.
💫 Day 4: doing something else like playing games & spending quality time hosted by and for Team 1 on Tempelhofer Feld.
Things are cooking and alive in all shapes and colors!
We are inspired & grateful to see our daring & curious learners leaning into this transformative learning environment!
To celebrate it all we had a magical autumn dinner before saying: TIME FOR A BREAK!
Regenerative & systemic activism and leadership need exactly that, breaks and time for doing nothing - because how else will we be able to dive into the depth of transformation again?
Have a lovely week! 🌿
A couple of weeks ago we met with our entire Team in Aarhus before heading to the 30-year KAOSPILOT celebration together.
Our key-take aways are in theory not new to us, but in order to embody experiences, repetition is needed, so here we go again:
* Nature holds us - thanks to the beach and the sea for offering soundscapes, cool waters, and grounds to hold our walks and talks!
* Play lightens things up - not laughing is not an option if your team members are to embody an atom, degrowth, or a toaster!
* Make intentional space for tensions - listening to the different perspectives and experiences alive in the team, which may differ from co-founders to employed, is extremely important. And so is the constant practice of hosting our emotional selves.
Thank you to Rebecca Weisl and Fenna van der Ploeg for sharing your honest thoughts with us - you allow us to evolve as an organization.
Supporting each other in balancing what is important and urgent, and yes, prioritizing the important over the urgent, is a practice to continue growing
To many more get-togethers like this!
We hope you can have similar experiences in your teams!
Do you wonder what is currently happening in our 1 Year Programme?
Here is a little overview of some of what happened lately :)
We are immersed in getting to know each other, self-organizing, and swimming in the beautiful mess of figuring things out. Our first external guests and practitioners generously share their knowledge with us and kindly push our thinking and perspectives!
We have begun to explore what activism is, it’s contextual and complex essence which makes us question whether or not activists should or shouldn’t eat Nutella way deeper than first assumed. (Thank you for your poll Janka Eckert!)
We had the visit of Cléo Mieulet & Dani Mosimann (https://lnkd.in/eVKS23pk), who talked about the current status of how climate change impacts all life (https://lnkd.in/e2CNt8n2). Through monologues about how different personas react when facing climate collapse and we shared feelings. Thank you for your input.
We were lucky to have Nikoline Nybo with us (who does incredible work with Inclusify & Ladies First Network)! Nikoline hosted an insightful session around , , and in the context of - with perspectives and tools that we will for sure return to again and again! Thank you so much for sharing in your sparking and radically unique way!
Anna Plum Forrest and Sofie Fingado hosted a workshop on : what is it to whom, how does it manifest, and when, and can we ever be in spaces where power is not present?
We participated with joy in the fabulous opening celebration, the doors to our co-working were open, some students prototyped elements for their first projects with some of the guests present on site and yes, we did dance almost all night! Thank you to all the people from the Atelier Gardens and Fabrix Team and Community who made this happen!
On Friday 23rd some of us joined the Global Climate March organized by together with Team 28 from KAOSPILOT.
This week Team 1 is mostly out and working in smaller groups on their first small project: the Activism Project, which is intended to explore collaboration as well as the wide theme of .
We had our first , a format that brings together learners and Staff members (Edda Luisa Kruse Rosset & Fenna van der Ploeg) to look at the programme and understand what is alive. We believe that as this is the first time we are running the programme, we need to listen to the experience of all members involved, to iterate and improve accordingly!
We also had a wonderful afternoon of where Adrian Grunert, Carolina Ribeiro, and Romain De Raymond shared their interest, passion & work ( , , )
These weeks are intense and beautiful: experience-based learning and beginning something new is tiring! And: Something we are grateful for!
Now some of us are on our way to , for the Kaospilot 30-Year celebration. WOW!
Wow - more than one week has already passed with the dear people of Team 1!
And it feels like we have been on multiple adventures already! 🎉
Beginnings are multitudes: exciting, overwhelming, fun, scary, pure pleasure, and a playground for potential and change! 🙌
Last week we spent some days outside of Berlin, in Kurwerk Biesenthal, currently a pilot project by .de to create more access to arts and culture. Thank you for sharing this magical space & offering grounds for experiments, creativity, and action!
And an immense wave of gratitude to all the people who have given with such generosity to warmly welcome Team 1 - borrowing camping material, technical equipment, cars, their wishes and best intentions, their voices, music, and magic!
Thank you .hauss, Anna Forrest !
Thank you dear for sharing your wisdom around rituals and community as this first new team is coming into being 😍
We are eternally grateful to , the soul of action, connection, and getting things done with charm and magic! This human brings her music taste and groove, complete presence, and care: if you ever need a Kaospilot to make any event or gathering spark and unforgettable, give her a call! 🔥
Dear All,
thank you for your applications!! 🙏
And for a beautiful application process - that is still ongoing! 🙌
We are grateful and excited after this week! You will hear from us soon! 🍃

MEET OUR TEAM!
We are happy to shortly introduce our lovely Team to you, whom learners will learn from within the context of the Leadership in Systemic Activism Programme: https://lnkd.in/dTck33kT
We are relational beings.
We learn with and from others.
In teams and with others we co-create, we shape together, and we transform ourselves and one another.
As everything is fractal and interconnected, how we internally organize as a team, how we collaborate, communicate and care for one another and our system(s), is affecting the quality and impact of our work and creation, and it eventually affects the people we collaborate with and learn from, it influences the quality of our impact!
Caring, regenerating, and nurturing our people and teams allows us to create the best possible learning environments for systemic transformation.
So - this little praise goes out to Helen van Baal Rebecca Weisl Finn Köhler Fenna van der Ploeg Sissel Hansen Edda Luisa Kruse Rosset for the commitment, seriousness, and joy put into staying learners ourselves as we are getting more and more excited to learn with you!

"With KP+ Berlin I learned_ that as an activist, I first need to take care of myself in order to be there for the community I'm building. I also understood that being a leader is not only about my mindset but also about my body and listening to the signals it gives is key to moving (forward). And of course, setting weekly intentions, doing energizers, and learning facilitation methods are things I'm happily using these days.
Currently, I am working on_ my fashion startup, finding ways how to combine the activistic part of it with making it financially sustainable because of impact.
What inspires me these days is_ the book I'm reading called "The Gifts of Imperfection" by . This book is one of the gems the carefully curated library at Kaospilot+ Berlin offers."
