Great Robots 1 crew at Brixner!

01/03/2024

Dear Brixner students and parents. Today at 7:15am high school teams got rescheduled and approved to travel to state at 9am. Unfortunately myself, the henley Middle coach, the district as well as administration at both Brixner and Henley Middle School did not feel that we could recoordinate parents for travel for the junior high teams on such short notice. Therefore junior high students will not be headed to State this year. I know this is a disappointment. We appreciate your understanding in this manner. Students may not travel up with their own parents and compete. Go grizz.

29/02/2024

KCSD has cancelled all district travel for this weekend. I am working with the Robotics state to still offer opportunities for our students to participate in an alternative method. I will post more when I have more information.
Thanks!

The Championship Match!

KCSD Middle School Vex League wrapped up last week. A great group of Basin kids! Congratulations to our tournament Champions and Skills Champion teams! Good luck at State!

Update from the State Organizer...

• We will divide the Platinum level event into two different divisions. Science, and Technology. Each division will have roughly 32 teams participating.
• The division's finalists will play against each other in a head-to-head best of 3 match to determine tournament champions.
• In each division Teams will have 1 practice match, 8 qualifying rounds, alliance selection and elimination rounds. (If we have too many technology glitches, we might skip the practice matches. Not that technology ever gives issues.)
• The Dracobots VEX Robotics Championship is given 8 slots for the world championships, Tournament Champions x2, Tournament Finalistsx2, Robot Skills Champion, Excellence, Design, Innovative Awards.
o These awards will be given out based on all 64 teams at the platinum division.
• Additionally, we will be giving out the Judges, Sportsmanship awards as well
• Interviews take place on both Friday and Saturday.
• Engineering notebooks will be evaluated during the judging process. Please submit links to notebooks by the end of the day on Tuesday Feb 27th through "Robotevents.com". Links to the engineering notebooks will be sent to the judges before the event for evaluation.
• Students interested in the Innovate award will need to have This form filled out and posted in their engineering Notebook.
o It is highly recommended that teams interested in applying for the innovate award should post the innovate documentation on both Robotevents and in their digital engineering notebooks.
• We plan on having several skills fields open and running at the same time. Everyone is allowed 3 driving and 3 programming skills runs.
o You will need at least 1 team member and your robot to be in the skills line.
o To help maximize skills runs, students will be limited to 2 runs of each type on Saturday. This means that in order to get all runs in you will need to go through skills at least once on Friday for driving and programing.
• There will be food for sale at the event.
• Teams are welcome to arrive early and help with setup. We will start setting up at 8:00 am on Friday. Local teams are also welcome to help with clean up after the event.
• Trying a new Adults-in-pits policy. No adults in pits until interviews are complete, no adults on computers in the pits or near the Skills Challenge field area for the entirety of the event.
• Address: Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center, 2330 17th Street Northeast, Salem, OR 97301. Use the Sunnyview Road Entrance (See map with parking information using the link below.)
• Link to the Pavilion and Parking (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1O0o0UtEk7PY2nCtJcweVpronH--C1UbZWqDCWcr7wos/edit?usp=sharing)

Updated travel plan to include Brixner pickup on Friday 3/1

21/02/2024

Great return of permission slips today. We have 11 kids going for sure and 7 more working out details.
A quick update.
The district has decided that students MAY ride up and back with their own parents instead of riding the bus.
I talked with most of the students today and most said they would like to ride the bus. Please talk with your student and make sure you are on the same page for how they will get up and back.
I'll get registrations paid tomorrow and then update kids on Friday with any new news.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 541-851-0659
Thanks!
Laura Nickerson
