House passes bill to move public school start times A bill passed to require middle schools to have a start time no earlier than 8:00 a.m., and for high school, no earlier than 8:30 a.m, starting July 1 of 2026.

This is amazing and exciting! Please encourage your legislators to pass this bill. This is the most movement we have seen on this important issue since 2014! The resistance is the same as always, but where there is a will, there is a way and changes have been made successfully in different districts and states when the decision was made to make the change and the community has been engaged in finding solutions. It really can be done, even though there are real challenges to doing it. This needs to happen for the health of our teens.

Looks like the bill is progressing!
A Florida Senate panel on Monday approved a proposal that would push back school start times for many high-school students in the state.
The Senate Education PreK-12 Committee approved the bill (SB 1112), which would prevent middle schools from beginning the "instructional day" before 8 a.m., while high schools would be barred from starting before 8:30 a.m.
The full House is slated to take up its version of the bill (HB 733) on Thursday.
