🌟 Honoring the Incredible Educational Legacy of Ms. Linda Spight!✨
Today, we celebrate the remarkable educational journey of Ms. Linda Spight, a true pillar in Detroit's education community! 📚✨ What many may not know is that she wasn't just my high school principal; she also taught my mother at Henry Ford High School, leaving an indelible mark on our family's educational legacy.
Ms. Spight's dedication to education dates back to 1971, when she began her illustrious career at Henry Ford High School. From English teacher to English Department Head, School Improvement Chair, Reading Specialist, Test Coordinator, and Assistant Principal, she wore many hats in her pursuit of shaping young minds.
In 1996, Ms. Spight took the helm as the Principal of Samuel C. Mumford High School, where she served until her retirement in 2009. Even after retirement, her commitment to education persisted. As an Instructional and Principal Coach, she continued to inspire at Detroit Community High School, the American International Academy, and Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Currently, Ms. Spight serves part-time at Edison Elementary School as a Parent Outreach Coordinator, showcasing her unwavering dedication to fostering community engagement.
Her involvement extends beyond the classroom; she's an active member of the Mumford High School Alumni Association, the Henry Ford Alumni Association, her alma mater, Central High School, and the Detroit Retired Principals Network. For the past decade, she's been instrumental in honoring the unsung heroes of Detroit Public Schools and raising funds for student scholarships.
Ms. Spight's favorite part of being an educator is witnessing the growth and development of young people. Her advice for aspiring educators? "Have a love for young people and a passion for helping them accomplish their goals." She emphasizes the need to share time, energy, and love, highlighting the awesome rewards of the journey.
Thank you, Ms. Linda Spight, for your decades of service, love, and impact on countless students' lives. Your legacy continues to inspire us all! 💖

📚💖Today, we pay tribute to a remarkable educator, mentor, and lifelong supporter, Mrs. Rosemary Mims Collins! 📚💖 From the moment I stepped into her second-grade classroom, she instilled in me a foundation rooted in faith, respect, and the pursuit of excellence.
Mrs. Collins' journey to becoming the "Ideal School Teacher" began in childhood with a simple yet powerful prayer. That prayer became the cornerstone of her incredible journey.
Fresh out of college, she embarked on her teaching career by founding a daycare for toddlers, then transitioned to teaching PreK to 6th Grade at Faith Christian Academy. What began as a temporary position became a lifelong passion fueled by her unwavering commitment to her students' growth and development.
Her favorite part of teaching? Equipping her students with lifelong skills, they would carry with them forever. From making up catchy songs to imparting essential life lessons, Mrs. Collins ensured her students learned not just academics but also values that would shape their character.
"Excellence or nothing at all," she'd say, reminding us to always strive for the best. "Put God first in all that you do," she'd emphasize, teaching us the importance of faith and guidance.
Her dedication didn't end in the classroom. Even in retirement, Mrs. Collins continues to impact lives, volunteering at her former elementary school and visiting former students' classrooms to ensure the vision of excellence lives on.
As we reflect on her journey, we're filled with gratitude and admiration for the incredible educator she is. Thank you, Mrs. Collins, for your unwavering commitment, love, and dedication to shaping futures. 🙏🏾💫

Today, we honor a remarkable educator and true inspiration — Mr. Nathan Wells! 🍎💫 For 15 years, he has dedicated himself to shaping the minds and futures of students while setting an example of excellence in both English and Mathematics.
A native Detroiter, Mr. Wells' passion for teaching shines through in everything he does. From the classroom to the role of middle school assistant principal, he's gone above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of his students.
Despite being capable of teaching many subjects, Nathan feels most at home in a math classroom. His dedication to turning math skeptics into enthusiasts is nothing short of awe-inspiring. He quotes, "My favorite part of being an educator is when someone sees math as the greatest antagonist, and I get to witness their eyes light amidst the many aha moments they have."
His advice for those entering the field echoes his unwavering commitment to his students: "Never let anyone take the wind out of your sails. Keep the kids first, and you'll continually win." 🚀💡
Thank you, Mr. Wells, for your dedication, passion, and unwavering belief in the power of education. Here's to many more years of inspiring moments and transforming lives! 🎓🌟

Today, we pay tribute to an extraordinary educator, my incredible Mother-in-love, Mrs. Teresa Amos! 🍎💖 For 37 years, she poured her passion into shaping the lives of middle school students in Detroit and Central Florida.
Initially drawn to the performing arts, she found her true calling in teaching ELA and directing performance arts opportunities. From special education to serving as an instructional coach, she left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Teaching, for her, was never just about academics; it was about instilling life skills and building futures. Her mantra? "Keep the kids first, build them up, and help them realize that the sky is the limit." 🚀
She has taught inspiring individuals like Jalen Rose and has been a beacon of encouragement every step of the way. Her dedication to education goes beyond the classroom — it's about empowering the next generation to reach for the stars. 🌠

I’m looking forward to pouring into the youth in my hometown!
I had the privilege of speaking to a group of students who are headed to college in the Fall. Among many things, I offered them two important pieces of advice:
1. Trash the excuses! 🗑️
Nobody cares. Severe circumstances that explain not turning in assignments *might* work, but avoid this habit and TRASH THE EXCUSES! Your professors have heard them all.
2. Don’t talk yourself out of a great opportunity! 🛑
If you’re going to hear “no,” let it come from somewhere else, and then advocate for what you need/want.
Thank you for giving me the space to pour into our next generation of scholars.
