Transcript request alert for early action and early decision!

Today I was reading a newsletter from the guidance office for Ramapo and Indian Hills. Transcript request forms are due 10/1 for 10/15 early action submissions and they are due 10/18 for 11/1 submissions. Transcript requests are done through Naviance.

Parents, make sure your students are being proactive about transcript requests through their guidance offices!

If in doubt, reach out to your child's guidance counselor to make sure all of the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed.

This article gives parents something to think about as students plan their high school careers.

I have always believed that when accessorizing “less is more.” The same is true in life. Isn’t it better to focus on what you are passionate about rather than spread yourself thin and do a mediocre job? Time and again, passion and focus are what get the job done, not overloading and overdoing.

School has started, activities are gearing up, and college application deadlines are looming! I’m here to help with any questions or sessions as needed.

And for the juniors in the house, what test will your student take? October registration is open for both ACT and the SAT.

It is never too early to start working on the personal essay and activities section of the common app. Then when it opens in August, you are more than halfway there!!

Contact me for a consultation on the application process or to get a head start on the essay while life is a little more quiet during the summer.

Parents of rising juniors: August 24th is the next SAT date. If your child has completed Algebra 2, the summer is a perfect time to take the test! They can get one round under their belts and will have plenty of time to take it again if they are not happy with their scores.

Maybe, with a little prep and practice, your student will only need to take it once!

I offer both consultation and test prep sessions throughout the summer.

SAT Practice and Preparation – SAT Suite | College Board 24/05/2024

Hi everyone, I'm dropping two links here.

One is for the College Board FREE SAT Practice. If your student has taken the new Digital SAT once or twice now and is still looking to improve their score, the best way to do that is with targeted practice. Using these resources is a great way to start. I am always happy to help with a few sessions focusing on the specific areas your child needs help in. https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/practice-preparation

The second link is to the College Essay Guy's Application Hub. This is a great resource for all things college application. As junior year comes to a close, take some time to skim these links. Summer is the best time to write the main essay and begin planning how to craft the best application package showcasing your student's strengths.

I am available through the summer and into fall to help with these and any other academic need that arises!

As I work with students preparing for the digital SAT, I am reminded of the importance of practice and familiarizing oneself with the platform. The more comfortable and familiar a student is with the layout, tools, and timing, the better their chances for success. Free digital practice tests are available on the College Board's website. Here’s What It’s Like to Take the New SAT (Gift Article) 15/03/2024

The first round of the new digital SAT was administered last weekend. Here is a sneak peek at what the questions look like.

Here’s What It’s Like to Take the New SAT (Gift Article) Students will take a new SAT on Saturday. It’s all digital, and the reading and writing sections do away with page-long reading excerpts with eight to 11 questions.

Research says that the best way to prepare for standardized tests is to simulate test day. Practice taking the whole test to familiarize yourself with structure and timing. Test taking is a measure not only of academic potential, but also of endurance. It’s tiring to sit and work hard for extended periods of time. Don’t let your student go in cold.

It's the beginning of test season for high school juniors!

The ACT is April 13, June 8, and July 13 with registration deadlines falling approximately the month before. Register early to ensure a seat at your local school.

The digital SAT is March 9, May 4 and June 1 with registration deadlines approximately 2 1/2 weeks prior to test date.

If you do not have access to a device such as a laptop for the SAT, you can register to borrow one on test day. For those of us who do have one, make sure to download the Bluebook App on your laptop and familiarize yourself with the program long before test day.

Link to the Bluebook App: https://bluebook.app.collegeboard.org/

As always, I am happy to talk or work with your student regarding any stage of the process.
