It's AAC awareness month. Is it possible that we don't model using AAC because we don't "appear" joint/ shared attention?!
Have you ever sat watching TV (so anyone would think that because you are looking at the TV you are "paying attention" To it?) BUT ACTUALLY we are paying attention to a conversation happening in another room?! Same thing. Just because a child didn't share attention with us, doesn't mean that we shouldn't model language.
This is something we don't often consider when thinking about communication and language...

If you work with people affected by disability- even in the very earliest years (as many of you are) Watch it!! it's important to not assume that because someone's body and brain respond differently to others they don't understand.
