I missed yesterday! Raising awareness of this...

13/10/2023

It's AAC awareness month. Is it possible that we don't model using AAC because we don't "appear" joint/ shared attention?!
Have you ever sat watching TV (so anyone would think that because you are looking at the TV you are "paying attention" To it?) BUT ACTUALLY we are paying attention to a conversation happening in another room?! Same thing. Just because a child didn't share attention with us, doesn't mean that we shouldn't model language.

Video: Opinion | My Disability Roadmap 18/05/2022

Sharing this BRILLIANT documentary- it's well worth the 20 minutes or so to watch. If you work with people affected by disability- even in the very earliest years (as many of you are) Watch it!! it's important to not assume that because someone's body and brain respond differently to others they don't understand. Brilliant and thought provoking job.

Video: Opinion | My Disability Roadmap The path to adulthood is a precarious one for those with disabilities. So Samuel Habib, 21, seeks out guidance from America’s most rebellious disability activists.
