They say the key to success is getting uncomfortable. So I am here for it! I am going WAY outside of my comfort zone and doing a Facebook LIVE on my new business page tonight (Wednesday, June 3rd) at 8pm.

I'll share some ideas for summer learning and the changes in my online platform. If you have teacher friends, feel free to share this post with them!

Like my new page to watch the replay and see upcoming posts!

WATCH LIVE tonight, June 4, at 7pm EST right here on this page, or tune in via Zoom: at this link:

Kwame Alexander, Jason Reynolds, and Jacqueline Woodson have organized a Kidlit Rally for Black Lives. Honored that we will host it on The Brown Bookshelf's FaceBook Live. We invite you to join us on Thursday, June 4 and spread the word. People around the nation are hurting. This is a time to come together and stand up. Our kids need us, and we are here for them. (School-age kids welcome). UPDATE: The Rally will be recorded, and will include ASL interpretation.

J.K. Rowling Introduces The Ickabog - J.K. Rowling 27/05/2020

Let me get this straight - J.K. Rowling is releasing a chapter a day from May 26th to July 1st of an unpublished manuscript....ummm, YES PLEASE!!

Parents!! How will you share this with your kids? Bedtime read aloud? Quiet time read aloud after lunch? Create a family book club? Lots of possibilities!

The Ickabog is a standalone fairy tale and has nothing to do with the Harry Potter universe, according to the bestselling author.

Not only that, The Ickabog will be traditionally published in November, and Rowling is conducting an international competition for children to illustrate it. Details about this competition are in the same link below.

I want to say enjoy, but I feel like that is an understatement!

J.K. Rowling Introduces The Ickabog - J.K. Rowling About The Ickabog The idea for The Ickabog came to me while I was still writing Harry Potter. I wrote most of a first draft in fits and starts between Potter books, intending to publish it after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. However, after the last Potter book I wanted to take a break […]

Fear not! There are easy ways to make learning engaging while at home!

Curbing the COVID-19 Slide The summer slide is something that most families and educators are familiar with, it is a term to describe the loss of learning over a summer. The summer slide can be as extreme as a decline of 2-3 months of learning loss to just a two-week loss.

UConn seniors, some of them the first in their families to finish college, celebrate and mourn the loss of an in-person graduation ceremony 10/05/2020

I’m so proud of the undergraduate graduating class of 2020, they were my 6th grade homeroom class in 2009. Holding space and honoring them today as many of them attend a virtual commencement. Congratulations!!

UConn seniors, some of them the first in their families to finish college, celebrate and mourn the loss of an in-person graduation ceremony On Saturday, Amber Smith will graduate with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from UConn. But instead of crossing the stage at Gampel Pavilion surrounded by her loved ones and thousands of peers, the first-generation college student will quietly celebrate at her mothe...

Who doesn't love Llama Llama?

Llama llama, red pajama⁣
Can’t go out, nor can his mama. ⁣
Grandma, Grandpa stuck inside; ⁣
from his family he cannot hide. ⁣
Mama says, “We’ll see friends soon!”⁣
But all she really means is Zoom.⁣
Germs on doorknobs, desks, and floors.⁣
Friends and neighbors: stay indoors!⁣

Llama llama red pajama⁣
Can’t go out, nor can his mama. ⁣
Feeling lonely, Llama mama
Can’t go to the Shop-O-Rama ⁣
Everything’s a little hazy⁣
Llama’s mama’s going crazy!⁣
Flying “hanitizer”, soap! ⁣
No more TP — we can’t cope!⁣

Llama llama, red pajama⁣
Can’t go out, nor can his mama. ⁣
School is out, we’re all home⁣
Netflix, YouTube on the Phone ⁣
Llama llama can’t sit still!⁣
Mama yells then something spills.⁣

Llama llama, red pajama⁣
Can’t go out, nor can his mama. ⁣
Llama llama, red pajama ⁣
I know the news shows lots of drama⁣
But Little llama don’t you know?⁣
This virus will eventually go!
So hunker down and say your prayers
Stay home, Llama! Show you care!

Just a shoutout to a company I am currently loving: Staying at home with two toddlers under two WHILE trying to maintain some work productivity has been tricky to say the least! I am happy that when I set up my website I used Kajabi! Maintaining emails and the sporadic blog posts (when naps are longer than two hours) is super easy using this platform. Very grateful today; for the win!
