"Spätzle" is a type of noodles typical for the South of Germany. Traditionally they are prepared at home, by scratching a thin dough (basically eggs, flower, water, a bit of salt) from a wooden board into boiling water.
"Spätzle" is a dialect word meaning "little sparrows", referring to the form the dough drops often take on when boiled.

Must it always be meat? Here is a suggestion for a dish that is extremely attractive and yet is based on vegetables only: Ratatouille.
Take 1 large onion, 2 zucchini, 1 aubergine, 3-4 carots, 3-4 tomatoes, 2 sweet peppers, 1 hot pepper. Cut everything in small pieces. Fry the onions, add the other vegetables. Let cook for a time. Add red wine. Add salz, pepper, and a good quantity of rosemary. - Serve with potatoes, or eat with bread.
