Today is Nikolaustag in Germany and other German speaking countries. This is a day when St. Nikolaus comes to visit children and rewards them for their good behaviour with chocolates and other treats.
Great, you think?! Well, where I come from (Southern part of Germany) he is also accompanied by his helper the "Krampus". The story is that if you haven't been good, this scary creature may just put you in a bag and take you away. What an incentive to be "ein braves Kind."
(My dad told me that he always had scissors with him on that day, just in case he was put in the bag 😉)

Frohe Weihnachten!
Dieses Jahr verbringe ich Weihnachten in England aber wir haben trotzdem schon gestern unsere Geschenke aufgemacht.
In Deutschland feiern wir Weihnachten am Heiligabend, also öffnen wir alle Geschenke am 24. Dezember.

This year I'm spending Christmas in England, but we already opened our presents yesterday.
In Germany we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, so we open all presents on the 24th of December.

Heute habe ich mit der Schlange von der Freundin meines Bruders gekuschelt.
Today I snuggled with my brother's girlfriend's snake.
Both 'von' (of) + dative
and the "true" genitive are used in German to express possession.
It's very common to say 'the girlfriend OF my brother' and this can be a bit of an issue for English native speakers, as it doesn't seem very natural.
You can also use the true genitive but it's more common in written than in spoken German and might sound odd at times.
As always, there are also regional preferences... Germans, innit?!

My sister's (fem)-
von meiner Schwester OR meiner Schwester
My rabbit's (neuter)-

Meine "Jause" (Austrian word for a cold meal also known as "Brotzeit" - bread time)
Man isst eine Jause/Brotzeit meistens, wenn man eine Pause beim Wandern macht.
Manchmal gibt es in Deutschland auch eine Brotzeit als Abendessen.
Es hat sehr lecker geschmeckt! (Ich habe das nicht alles alleine gegessen)
