Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Consultancy Not every child is the same.

Bloom SEND Consultancy is founded on two key beliefs: that every child has the capacity to flourish and thrive, and that every child has the right to a high quality education. When a child has additional needs they may need some extra support to reach their potential.

Bloom supports parents, carers and schools to effectively support children with special education needs and disabilities (SEND), giving every child the chance to flourish and thrive.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 09/05/2022

It’s Mental Health Awareness week. One of the biggest things we can all do to help foster positive mental wellbeing for ourselves and those around us is to create non-judgemental, safe environments where we are able to talk openly- to say when we are struggling, to voice our worries, loneliness or challenges we are facing. We are not made to do life alone.

Have a look at this link - it has some great resources … https://www.mind.org.uk/get-involved/mental-health-awareness-week/?fbclid=IwAR2Yqbk62UBXXM3-SmpaagkYPgXRYKymJreUZ01LEiCCJ_8qTBG9si2PQ_0 #:~:text=Mental%20Health%20Awareness%20Week%3A%209%2D15%20May%202022

Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 9-15 May 2022 and this year we’re using spoken word to show the different ways people talk about their experiences.

In-school mental health support can reduce school exclusions | Place2Be 08/05/2022

No surprise but nice to see the evidence in a study: schools need to prioritise resourcing support for children’s emotional wellbeing and mental health. It benefits all - child, family and school.

In-school mental health support can reduce school exclusions | Place2Be A new study has found that school-based mental health interventions may positively influence educational engagement.

Masking is so common and can be so effective that additional needs can easily be missed with a massive impact on mental health.

MASKING can take place in both boys and girls. It’s an overwhelming urge to ‘fit in’ even if it means your own basic needs are not met.

It can look like many things, and is tricky to spot for those who aren’t the person’s main care giver. Which is why it’s often hard for teachers to see.

Prolonged masking can lead to burnout, and can actually become quite traumatising bringing with it the overwhelming feeling of shame.

100% agree with this … so important to be understood and acknowledged when dealing with children who struggle to manage their behaviour

Start with Maslow's hierarchy. Behavior is never a diagnosis. Children excluded from school have higher rates of FSM;Risk of homelessness; Neurodivergent traits; TBI. Hungry kids and those at risk of homelessness are not a good starting point for engaging in education.☂️

How new proposals will stop schools being inclusive 14/02/2022

A relevant and interesting read. It needs considering at a local and national level.

https://www.tes.com/magazine/analysis/primary/levelling-targets-could-erode-inclusivity?fbclid=IwAR0a7hQzckhnV3f_JLExxnOK-5D2saZKmp5F0yGBIBkFoAHOWWed11T_-PE

How new proposals will stop schools being inclusive Moves to put targets on literacy and numeracy sound laudable but the consequence will likely see more children with SEND pushed into more inclusive settings – heaping yet more pressure on their staff and finances
