The group derived its name from the graceful strength of waves or "alun" that shaped the coastlines, as well as the diverse cultures of the Philippines.
Since its establishment in June 1999, the ADC has appeared in hundreds of performances like concerts, national festivities, dance recitals, inaugurals, art exhibits, international conferences, and television shows. Catch AlunAlun Dance Circle's 24th Anniversary Offering, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, presents "PANGALAY AT MASKARA 2024" a dance concert on tour featuring traditional music and the music of National Artists and iconic songwriters.
In SHAPES AND COLORS: PANGALAY AT MASKARA, the ADC utilizes the Asian tradition of wearing masks to create theatrical performance choreography. The mask, as the centerpiece of a costume, often with props used by a performer, transforms the wearer from reality to illusion to play a creative role.

On April 24, the UPD Ugnayan ng Pahinungod held the third installment of the Holistic Wellness Webinar Series, titled "Body Movement: A Creative Wellness Journey". The wellness session featured the physical and mental wellness benefits of Pangalay, a traditional dance from the Sulu Archipelago, taught by AlunAlun Dance Circle dancers Jimo Angeles and Joy Ricote Cruz.
