Hi I noticed you have had some Agatha Christie Posts, I am lucky enough to live in the former Torre Vicarage in Torquay, Devon, England which was visited by Agatha Christie - she took tea here - and we now run the house as a bed and breakfast accommodation so that fans can walk in Agatha's footsteps! Her birthplace, Greenway and other places connected to a number of books are close by.

It’s a 🌧 day and we 🌈‘rainbow’🌈 it with creativity and joys throughout two sessions of sewing workshop. It seems like there's no boundary between RMIT and Brother or instructors and students. We are unified with 💪courage💪 to explore new area where many students don’t have much experience.

Though we can just serve about one-third of a hundred registrations for this workshop in SGS campus, students’ passions fulfill us with determination to drive the wave of creativity as well as spread it to RMITers especially the ones from Hanoi campus who haven’t got a chance to join this time."

"Working as a librarian at RMIT was a bold decision to me, considering 5 years ago when I was in my 40s and had a decent job in a respected state office.

By that time, I was eager to challenge myself but then stumbled upon many opposing opinions from my friends and family. One day, when I let my thoughts slip with an old doctor, he kindly smiled and told me: “Have you seen farmers working out on their field on icy winter days? Just by looking at them, you could already feel the chill running through your body. But try putting your legs into the water as they do, you’ll not feel the cold. And you will surprise yourself with what you can achieve”.

The story motivated me to catch the chance of becoming an RMIT Librarian, since then I was given so much memorable experience. All students are unique, yet they all have something in common: they are in the best age of their life. I see my youth and my past when I meet with them. I love all the non-coherent chats with them, academic or not because I believe that asking or chatting is the easiest and most effective way to help people become more mature in learning, working, and even in life!

I hope that I’ll get to see more of you guys - RMIT students, to live and enjoy the feeling of being young once again. It’s very delightful to be a part of a “fancy and cozy” place for you all, and I just want you to know that the Library will always open for you to come back anytime, with anything."

#Bookoftheweek #BookRecommendations

This week, we'd like to recommend to you an 'oldie but goodie' book. Usability Engineering by Jakob Nielsen, who is called 'perhaps the best-known design and usability guru on the Internet' by Financial Times. If you've ever seen the hashtag #TLDR (Too Long, Didn't Read) used elsewhere when browsing the internet nowadays, you will understand the benefits of good design and usability.

The book has a pretty wide intended audience, but if you're studying User Experience Design, designing system interface, researching on how people are reading the web or just curious about how to improve usability in general, this book will give you many practical advice.

The book is available as an ebook in RMIT Library collection, you can access it via this link https://primo-direct-apac.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/f/aqirjb/TN_cdi_askewsholts_vlebooks_9780080520292.

Happy reading!

#GettingToKnow Luan, RMIT Vietnam alumnus

1️⃣Can you tell us about yourself?

👨‍🦰I'm an RMIT alumnus and now working as a Research Assistant in the School of Business and Management. I assist lecturers in conducting their research, specifically writing literature reviews, carrying out interviews, collecting data and analysing data.

2️⃣What is your favourite part (service/resource) of the Library, and why?

👨‍🦰Because of the nature of my work, I have to read and write a lot. That's why my favourite part of the Library is the extensive online resources. The online collection is huge and has everything on any areas I need for my work. When I was a student at RMIT, it helped me a lot as well when I needed to research information for my assignments.

I also enjoy the extra services that the Library offers for students and staff. When I was in my first year, I attended library workshops in referencing, using tool like EndNote, or researching for assignments. Those equipped me with the skills needed for my studies. As a staff, the librarians help me with finding suitable journal articles for our research, something I cannot do on my own. The Library is truly helpful and supportive.

3️⃣Can you share with us one or two titles are you reading?

👨‍🦰Right now, I'm particularly interested in behavioural economics so I'm reading books on this topic. I've borrowed a few books from the Library like "Dollars and Sense" by Ariely Dan and "Thinking fast and slow" by Kahneman Daniel. Interesting stuffs!
