Exactly a year ago, on October 6, 2020, officials of the Vietnamese and US governments met online for the 24th annual US-Vietnam Human Rights . Officials discussed of religion, the rule of law, cooperation, workers’ rights, and freedom of during the three-hour session.
Yet just hours after the conclusion of the meeting, police in Ho Chi Minh City arrested award-winning journalist, author and human-rights activist Pham Doan Trang, who now faces up to 20 years in prison after being charged with information “opposing the state.”
If that charge sounds unclear, that’s because it is. Article 117, the law under which Trang was charged, is so poorly defined that it could virtually any criticism of the ruling Communist Party.
Indeed, that is precisely the point. This year, eight people have been arrested under the same . They include independent journalists, independent candidates for the National Assembly, and social-media users who have the government online.
The arrest came as little surprise to Trang. The following day, fellow activist Will Nguyen shared a letter Trang had prepared in 2019 to be published in the event of her arrest. In the letter, Trang called for her fellow activists to take advantage of her imprisonment to push for legal and political reform in the country.
“Bear in mind,” she wrote, “the lengthier the prison term, the more you have to negotiate with the Vietnamese government and pressure them into doing what we request.”
As demonstrated by the preparation of the letter, Trang saw her as inevitable. Perhaps the most surprising thing about her arrest is that it took so long, for Trang had long been on the of the security services for her views.
Trang, a former journalist for state media, is a founder of Luat Khoa and The Vietnamese, which provide independent online analysis of social, political and legal issues in Vietnam. Both sites are blocked by . Little surprise, then, that Freedom House rated Vietnam as “not free” in its most recent annual report on Internet freedom.
Trang has also been prevented from printing books since 2015. , she has published numerous free-to-access books and handbooks online. These include “Politics of a Police State,” “On Non-Violent Techniques,” and “Politics for the .”
Her work has not gone . Reporters Without Borders awarded her the Press Freedom Prize for Impact in 2019.
Trang has long faced for her . In 2012, she was arrested during an anti-China protest in Hanoi. In 2015 Trang founded the environmental pressure group Green Trees in response to plans to fell thousands of trees in Hanoi. She was by police during the that followed.
During then-US president Barack Obama’s visit to Vietnam in 2016, Trang was by police to prevent her from attending a meeting between him and domestic civil-society organizations.
In 2018, she was in effect placed under house arrest to prevent her from participating in the protests against highly controversial new draft laws concerning cybersecurity and the establishment of special economic zones. In August of the same year, Trang was beaten by plainclothes police while attending a concert by the singer Nguyen Tin, and was sent to hospital with a concussion.
The final for the Vietnamese authorities came with Trang’s coverage and analysis of the violence between police and villagers at D**g Tam village, which left three policeman and village elder Le Dinh Kinh dead on January 9, 2020.
On September 26, 2020, Trang and Will Nguyen released a 65-page report that the official narrative of the violence, outlined how the actions of the police violated domestic and international law, and called for the international community to pressure the Vietnamese government into opening a “just and objective” investigation into the events of January 9.
For those hoping for a sentence for Trang, the signs have not been good. In January of this year, three members of the Independent Journalists Association of Vietnam (IJAVN) prison sentences ranging from 11 to 15 years, while in July, the co-founder of IJAVN, Pham Chi Thanh, was given a five-and-a-half-year sentence. Like Trang, the four IJAVN members were charged with writing articles “ to the state.”
There is currently little to be positive about for of free speech in Vietnam. Despite this, in February Vietnam announced its intention to run as a candidate for membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term.
If Vietnam is serious about its desire to contribute to the development of human rights it should look to put its own house in order first. releasing Pham Doan Trang would be a good place to start.

😍😍 Câu chuyện đầu năm 😍😍
Học trò nhà tui đứa nào cũng như đứa nào 🥲🥲 Những ngày đầu đi học thì diện đồ thiệt đẹp, thiệt hoành tráng, làm gì cũng nhẹ nhàng, rụt rè. Nhưng chỉ khi học được tầm 1 tháng trở lên là bắt đầu coi trung tâm như nhà luôn rồi, mỗi ngày học thì mặc bộ đồ ngủ ở nhà đi luôn cho tiện và thoải mái, nhiều khi mấy nhỏ còn rành trung tâm hơn tui, nhiều lúc kiếm cái kéo hay cuốn sách k ra, hỏi học viên thì tụi nó chỉ phát ra liền 😂😂
😜😜 Thế đó đi học với tâm trạng thoải mái như vậy thì chẳng thấy áp lực học tập gì cả phải k anh chị 😍😍

Dạy con nói tròn câu ngay từ khi còn bé để con quen dần với giao tiếp trong tiếng Anh. Nghiên cứu cho thấy trẻ em học ngôn ngữ nhanh hơn người lớn, chính vì thế cho con làm quen với TA ngay từ bé chính là phù hợp nhất. Thế mới thấy tới cái tuổi này rồi thì em thấy học ngôn ngữ mới rất khó và mất thời gian để nhớ 😁😁

Bên e học theo mô hình kèm 1:1 hoặc theo nhóm nhỏ nên việc các con có hợp hay thích học cô đó hay không rất quan trọng 💕💕Chính vì thế các gvien bên e đều được yêu cầu trước và sau khi tuyển dụng phải có thái độ dạy là đặt cái tâm vào dạy cho học viên❤️❤️ Không phải đến dạy cho đúng giờ ra về là xong, mà trước đó cô sẽ xem và soạn tài liệu, sau khi con học xong cô sẽ biết con yếu chỗ nào và viết feedback gửi phụ huynh sau đó rút kinh nghiệm cho buổi học lần sau,… Từ những việc nhỏ nhặt, qtam học trò từng chút một thì các con sẽ quí các cô hơn, đó cũng là một lý do giúp các con có tinh thần chịu và thích học hơn ❤️❤️

Được hôm Nam Phi thích vẽ, thế là cô cho ảnh vẽ luôn trên bảng với yêu cầu vẽ những từ vựng con vừa mới học được 😉 Thế là ảnh sốt sắng vẽ vời và thuộc luôn các từ vựng vừa mới học😁 Đấy mới thấy, chỉ có làm điều mình thích thì cái gì cũng trở nên dễ dàng 🥰🥰 Học từ vựng khó thì ta nghĩ cách biến nó thành một thú vui thì sẽ dễ dàng thôi 💕 Đúng k anh/chị nhể 😆

❤️❤️ Tự hào con - Xuân ❤️❤️
Nay con có dịp được lên sân khấu thuyết trình bằng TA mà con làm cho các bạn, thầy cô và phụ huynh đều thấy ngưỡng mộ. Con bước đi tự tin, đứng trước rất nhiều người, thuyết trình TA to và rõ ràng. Chỉ với vài giây mà con đã khiến cho các cô thấy rất tự hào 🔥🔥
Tiếp tục phát huy Xuân nhé 🥳

Halloween is a night of costumes, fun and candy which happens only once on 31st October every year.
Halloween celebration provides people with an opportunity to dress up in a scary manner.
People have choice where to attend celebration, go trick-or-treating or remain haunted in houses.
Every age group has a role to play in Halloween.
Halloween tradition and celebration has got rich ancient religious beliefs, stories and history.
Origin of Halloween Festival
Halloween celebration was established over two thousand years ago in Celtic Ireland by farmers. Initially, the Halloween festival was known as Samhain by the Celtic farmers which meant end of summer. This was a time to forget about the summer and hope for a productive winter. Celts believed that October 31st was the specific day when the season of death came into contact with life season and thus allowed dead spirits to rise among the living.
During Halloween festival, Celtic farmers gave sacrifices and build big bonfires to chase away dead spirit in hopes for healthy crops that following year.
Celts would as well wear masks and dress up in skins of animals so as to masquerade themselves as spirits.
Christianity developed into dominant religion in the eighth century.
In order to snoop away paganism believes in Celts, a Christian pope named first of November as “All Hallows Day” or “All Saints Day.”
However, although the Celts acknowledged the festival, they still kept on their tradition and after a short while, the so called All Hallows Eve was changed into present Halloween.
Halloween Festival in United States
It was until the nineteenth century when Halloween made its way to United States of America.
The rise of potato famine led to billions of unfortunate Celtic farmers and their families together with their cultural practices to move to the United States.
This resulted to numerous changes in the festival.
The animal skins dressed up were changed to costumes and Jack-O’-Lanterns replaced the big bonfires.
However, the festival kept its traditions.
Nowadays, Halloween has become famous in the entire world, specifically in United States of America.
Halloween has established itself as one of the most profitable festivals of the year.
The day generates billions of dollars every year through selling of costumes, decorations, candy and even films with themes of Halloween.
The Halloween festival has undergone various changes over two thousand years ago.
Despite all these changes, the fundamental basics developed by the Irish farmers have been persisted.

Halloween is a night of costumes, fun and candy which happens only once on 31st October every year.
Halloween celebration provides people with an opportunity to dress up in a scary manner.
People have choice where to attend celebration, go trick-or-treating or remain haunted in houses.
Every age group has a role to play in Halloween.
Halloween tradition and celebration has got rich ancient religious beliefs, stories and history.
Origin of Halloween Festival
Halloween celebration was established over two thousand years ago in Celtic Ireland by farmers. Initially, the Halloween festival was known as Samhain by the Celtic farmers which meant end of summer. This was a time to forget about the summer and hope for a productive winter. Celts believed that October 31st was the specific day when the season of death came into contact with life season and thus allowed dead spirits to rise among the living.
During Halloween festival, Celtic farmers gave sacrifices and build big bonfires to chase away dead spirit in hopes for healthy crops that following year.
Celts would as well wear masks and dress up in skins of animals so as to masquerade themselves as spirits.
Christianity developed into dominant religion in the eighth century.
In order to snoop away paganism believes in Celts, a Christian pope named first of November as “All Hallows Day” or “All Saints Day.”
However, although the Celts acknowledged the festival, they still kept on their tradition and after a short while, the so called All Hallows Eve was changed into present Halloween.
Halloween Festival in United States
It was until the nineteenth century when Halloween made its way to United States of America.
The rise of potato famine led to billions of unfortunate Celtic farmers and their families together with their cultural practices to move to the United States.
This resulted to numerous changes in the festival.
The animal skins dressed up were changed to costumes and Jack-O’-Lanterns replaced the big bonfires.
However, the festival kept its traditions.
Nowadays, Halloween has become famous in the entire world, specifically in United States of America.
Halloween has established itself as one of the most profitable festivals of the year.
The day generates billions of dollars every year through selling of costumes, decorations, candy and even films with themes of Halloween.
The Halloween festival has undergone various changes over two thousand years ago.
Despite all these changes, the fundamental basics developed by the Irish farmers have been persisted.

Đây là tên loại đèn lồng được làm từ quả bí ngô.
Người ta khoét ruột quả bí, khắc thành hình gương mặt đáng sợ rồi đặt nến vào bên trong để xua đi nỗi sợ hãi ma quỷ trong ngày này.

Nhiều người tin rằng việc nhìn thấy một con dơi trong lễ Halloween là một điềm gở. Nếu một con dơi bay xung quanh ngôi nhà của ai đó ba lần, điều đó có nghĩa là một người nào đó trong ngôi nhà sẽ chết sớm. Do đó, nhiều người cũng hóa trang thành con dơi để hù dọa người khác trong ngày này.

Tương tự dơi, mèo đen, nhện cũng được coi là điềm gở trong ngày Halloween. Vào ngày này, người ta tin rằng nếu con nhện rơi vào gần ngọn nến đang thắp nghĩa là linh hồn người chết đang ở quanh đâu đó.
