American Medical Student Association Chapter, located at Saint James School of Medicine on the beautiful island of Saint Vincent. As the only national independent student-run medical organization working for medical students, the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is the premier source of learning, knowledge and community for physicians-in-training.

Operating as usual

03/08/2017

Our chapter has been featured on the AMSA International page 😊

On September of 2016, the AMSA chapter at Saint James School of Medicine, St. Vincent & the Grenadines adopted Calliaqua, a local community, where they consistently do free health screenings every month. In total, the chapter has helped over 400 residents with amazing feedback from each health fair. Their focus is on non-communicable diseases, specifically hypertension and diabetes. Breast cancer screening is also provided and performed by Dr. Hughes Dougan; vision screening has been added recently.
Through these health fairs, the members of the chapter have the opportunity to encourage education and awareness and develop a strong relationship with the Vincentian community.

[08/06/16]   AMSA new executive board Fall 2016:

Chloe Waters - President
Melissa Brown - Vice President
Scarlett Sasso - Secretary
Bernard M. Soluta - Treasurer
Fayyaz Ahmed - Public Relations Officer
Sharjeel Qureshi - Action Committee Head
Samantha Perry - Recruitment Officer
Andres Madrigal - Board of Directors
Christelle Pani - Board of Directors.
Devin Harricharan - Sargeant at Arms.

[08/06/16]   Tonight was special and the right number of persons were in attendance as AMSA and PHI CHI (Alpha Tau Chapter) had an event and ceremony for the changing of the guards. The old executive board of AMSA stepped back (literally) to allow the members of the new board to take their places. It was a good time had by all. I am humbled yet proud to have been a part of this organization in the role of president. I am confident that the members of the new board will raise the bar and take AMSA to new heights. I will miss everyone, who was a part of my team and those members, who were very active. Thank each and every one of you (teary-eyed) very much for your support.

The torch has been passed.

[05/18/16]   AMSA presents a lecture on ZIKA VIRUS by Dr. Rosmond Adams on Date: Thursday, May 19
Time: 12:00pm - 12:55pm
Where:MD3
Come and learn about the virus that is currently a pandemic, breaking new grounds and has the medical community and researchers busily trying to find a cure....

[05/02/16]   Welcome back to all our members and fellow students. To our incoming MD1 class welcome to SJSM, St. Vincent. Each semester comes with its challenges but we as an organization are here to help each other through them.
This semester we will continue to keep our members involved, informed and excited about their career choice through our events.
Medical school brings out every aspect of our emotions. There are days when being on an island away from the support, love and trust you know gets the better of you and so you recoil into self and sometimes even cry and then, there are days when your joy competes with the sunshine.
We are here to love and support each other on this journey.
There is something to said in the strength of numbers. The more we are, the more love and support we have to share and the more we can give back to our community.

Have a great semester.
