Last Day of School Fun!

Last Day of School Fun!

[05/16/12]   Remember we will be walking to Dairy Queen tomorrow afternoon. Students need to wear comfortable, cool clothes and tennis shoes with socks. They may wear hats and sunglasses for the walk if they would like, but they must keep up with them. If your child has not brought in his or her dollar yet, please send it tomorrow morning. Students will have the choice of a dilly bar, kid’s cone, or an ice cream sandwich. We have pre-arranged these choices with Dairy Queen and they are the ONLY choices. Please do not send extra money as that is not fair to other children. I've had some parents ask if they can go with us, and unfortunately due to limited space at Dairy Queen, we will be able to take students only. That is the reason we are going one class at a time.

[05/15/12]   One of the students in our class lost her father today (actually her grandfather, but she called him her dad). I will be collecting donations from the Shearer staff starting Wednesday to purchase a Kroger or Wal-Mart gift card to give to her family. If you would like to donate money for the gift card, please send it by our last day of school (Friday). If you donate, it would be helpful if you would please write a note or put the money in an envelope or Ziploc bag to keep it separate from our money for the Dairy Queen trip.

I don't know any details about funeral arrangements yet. If I find out more information, I'll pass it along. Sad day today. :(

[05/15/12]   If your child wants to order a yearbook, there are a limited quantity left. Yearbooks are $13. Checks or money orders should be made out to Shearer Elementary PTO.

[05/14/12]   Don’t forget to join us for our Literacy Lunch tomorrow, 11:25-11:50. You will eat lunch with your child outside and listen to him or her read a favorite book from this year to you. You can buy lunch from the cafeteria or bring a lunch from home. Please remember that fast food or other food from restaurants is not allowed at school. Please meet us at the cafeteria at 11:25. After everyone has their food, we will walk back down to our classroom and eat on the grassy area just outside. You may want to bring a lawn chair, blanket, or towel to sit on.

[05/11/12]   Third graders will be participating in Field Day on Monday starting at noon. Students MUST wear tennis shoes and socks in order to participate. Suggested items for students - comfortable clothing, a towel, hat/sunglasses, water bottle, sunscreen.

[05/07/12]   Good luck to all my students as K-PREP begins tomorrow! I hope you're all in bed snoozing soundly by now!

[05/06/12]   Remember K-PREP testing starts tomorrow! Get a good night's sleep tonight and be sure to eat breakfast tomorrow morning.

Your Children Want You!

A must-read for all moms (and dads!)

powerofmoms.com There's this crazy phenomenon going on right now. Good, devoted mothers get on Pinterest . . . .and blogs . . .. and Facebook . . . .and Twitter . . . and they're convinced they're not enough. Here's what I've discovered.

Ha ha...students, this is one reason why I'm always nagging you about correct punctuation!

The third egg has pipped, so watch for another hatch! We tuned in this morning just in time to see the mother eagle feeding the babies and the father eagle eating a squirrel breakfast! The kids were grossed out and fascinated all at the same time.

[03/28/12]   We had our ice cream sundaes today. Because our entire class made so much growth from fall to spring, EVERYONE got a sundae. Thank you very much to those of you who donated items for sundaes. :)

[03/28/12]   Reminders...Coins for Compassion ends this Friday. Bring in all your spare change by then to donate for tornado victims. All picture money is also due by this Friday. Remember that if you're keeping any pictures, you need to send in payment for them. If you do not want the pictures, please return the entire package to school by Friday.

[03/28/12]   All library books are due by Friday. We go to the library tomorrow so that would be an ideal time to bring them. If not, they need to be turned in by Friday morning at the latest.

[03/28/12]   I have to brag on our class for a moment! I just averaged our MAP scores from the fall and now to compare them. Fall reading average score = 183, spring reading average score = 193! Fall math average score = 185, spring math average score = 198! I am a proud teacher! :)

First pip was today at 3:00 pm! The first egg is on its way to hatching. A pip is when the eaglet makes a small hole in the egg from inside using its egg tooth. Hatching will take 24-48 hours.

No hatch yet for the eagles...the first pip hole is expected any time. A pip hole is made by the chick from inside the egg using its egg tooth. The process of hatching out of the egg is known as "pipping" and will take anywhere from 24-48 hours. One egg will hatch at the time.
