For those band parents suffering through your kids’ practicing, here is where they end up. This is the Herricks High School Wind Ensemble (10th - 12th grade) performing “The Herricks March”, a piece composed by 11th Grader Michael Paciullo. Please take a listen.

On May 29, the Herricks High School Chamber Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble performed to a full audience at the beautiful Madison Theatre at Molloy College. The program consisted of high-level musical selections by composers such as Bach, Verdi, Dilwirth, Mendelssohn, Holst and Ticheli. The concert concluded with the Wind Ensemble performing world premiere of the "Herricks March". This piece was composed for the Wind Ensemble by Herricks High School Junior and up and coming composer, Michael Paciullo.

These ensembles are nationally recognized groups who have received the highest ratings at NYSSMA Majors every year. The Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra have performed at the NYSSMA All State Festival in Rochester, NY; the Chamber Orchestra was designated first place String Orchestra at the ASTA National Orchestra Competition in Atlanta, Georgia and the Chamber Choir performed among only 12 selected nationally at the Music for All Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition, all of these ensembles have performed at Carnegie Hall, Westminster Choir College and Temple University to name a few.

Herricks voters have approved the 2019-20 school district budget, with a final result of 1048 yes votes and 420 no votes. Congratulations to Juleigh Chin for her re-election to the Board of Education. Propositions 2 (to establish a Capital Reserve Fund) & 3 (Capital Reserve expenditure) were also approved.

Our Board and Administration worked diligently to develop a budget that continues to support all programs and opportunities for students while carrying only a minimal increase and remaining within the allowable tax levy cap.

We appreciate the efforts of and thank everyone in the community who participated in the budget development process and all those who express a continued interest in our schools.

[05/21/19]   There’s a lot of talk about voting down the budget because people are angry about the teacher contract negotiations. The budget vote has nothing to do with the HTA contract. If the budget fails, it will be our kids that are affected, with increased class sizes and elimination of programs. Those of you that lived through the budget crisis of a few years ago remember what it’s like. We have recovered from that time, let’s not go through it again.

PLEASE please go out and vote to support our budget. Tell your friends and neighbors too.

05/21/2019

Tuesday, May 21 is the school budget vote, from 7 am to 9 pm in the Herricks Community Center gym.

This year’s budget is under the tax cap and continues to fund all the great programs that our kids benefit from, while adding things like flexible seating, upgrading technology and more.

Please take a few minutes out of your day to go out and vote. Share this with your friends and neighbors.
