Hello GW families. Congratulations to all recent graduates ! I wanted to share the below information to rising 6th grade families.
The WPMS PTA is in discussions with Eastview on holding a back to school information session. This will tentatively be held on 8/18 via zoom. More information to follow. Please feel free to email any questions you have to [email protected] by 8/12. We will provide them to the school in advance of the meeting. In the subject line of the email please include Eastview Questions.
Ms Rodriguez also shared that for Eastview, kids will be going back to school either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. Information on group assignments will be mailed on August 17th.

GW Families - after the St. Patrick's Day parade join us for "Munch After the March" at Buffalo Wild Wings, sponsored by the Friends of White Plains Public Schools! Good food, good price, good community building and a GREAT way to support academic and enrichment programs for our WP Public School students. This year Friends of WPPS has granted funds for ballroom dancing, Bus Entrance Mural Project and book donations to the media center at GW through fundraisers like the "Munch After the March". Almost two years ago parent representatives from all 5 elementary schools in White Plains began working with the Superintendent & Principals to improve the quality of recess in our schools, forming the “Recess Matters Team.” The goal was to foster “active recess" throughout the school year for both outdoor & indoor recess.
The parent-driven team met regularly with the Superintendent (past & current) to discuss the importance of robust recess & find ways to champion this cause throughout the district. They also shared their progress regularly with the Board of Education and have received their encouragement & support.
Here is what they have accomplished so far:
The District hired Recess/Cafeteria Monitors at all 5 elementary schools to facilitate more robust, active (indoor & outdoor) recess practices across the District
Each school was allocated funding for additional games & equipment to be used for recess-specific purposes
A set of guiding principles called the “White Plains Recess Matters Elementary Recess Guidelines” (see below) has been developed in collaboration with school administrators, teachers & parent representatives from all 5 schools
The PlayWorks organization will provide grant-funded recess-specific training across all 5 elementary schools this Fall.
This school year provided the opportunity to begin implementing these recess enhancements and we would like to continue building & refining the recess experience at all the elementary schools. In order to do so, we would like to hear feedback on the recess experience for your child/children this year. It is important that we hear from you to be able to continue to build on this year's accomplishments. Please take a few minutes to complete a brief survey by clicking on the link below. Hace casi dos años, representantes de padres de las 5 escuelas primarias de White Plains comenzaron a trabajar con el Superintendente y los Directores para mejorar la calidad del recreo en nuestras escuelas, formando el " El Receso Importa." El objetivo era fomentar el "receso activo" durante el año escolar para el recreo al aire libre y bajo techo.
El equipo dirigido por padres se reunió regularmente con el Superintendente (pasado y actual) para analizar la importancia de un recreo sólido y encontrar formas de defender esta causa en todo el distrito. También compartieron su progreso regularmente con la Junta de Educación y han recibido su aliento y apoyo.
Esto es lo que han logrado hasta ahora:
El distrito contrató monitores de recreo / cafetería en las 5 escuelas primarias para facilitar prácticas de recreo más robustas, activas (interiores y exteriores) en todo el distrito.
A cada escuela se le asignaron fondos para juegos y equipos adicionales que se utilizarán para fines específicos del recreo
Se ha desarrollado un conjunto de principios rectores llamados “White Plains Recess Matters Pautas para el Recreo Elemental " (ver a continuación) en colaboración con administradores escolares, maestros y representantes de padres de las 5 escuelas.
La organización PlayWorks brindará capacitación específica para el recreo financiada por subvenciones en las 5 escuelas primarias de este otoño.
Este año escolar brindó la oportunidad de comenzar a implementar estas mejoras de recreo y nos gustaría continuar construyendo y refinando la experiencia de recreo en todas las escuelas primarias.
