Thank you!!! We recently reached out to ask for donations for a family in need in our area, and wow, the Elmwood family came through. We were able to deliver several trunk loads of much needed supplies—a beautiful reflection of the generous and loving spirit of our community. Thank you. 🙏🏼

What a great end to an amazing week, and a fantastic year! We enjoyed our annual Winterfest event yesterday with sleigh rides, wintery games, and of course, hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies. Today, we go play in the snow!

We wish our entire Elmwood family a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year. See you in 2025!

We did it!! The 4s, 5s, Kindergarten and First Grade all went beyond the hour of code. We had fun coding a teacher to navigate our maze of dots by reading our lines of code. We loved including a conditional statement, getting her to put on parts of a costume when she came upon them. Next, it was the kids’ turn! They followed a code to learn steps for a dance party! Coding toys like Kibo, robot mice, and apps like Box Island rounded out our fun. The best part? We learned mistakes help us grow and we all enjoyed a challenge.

For our 12th year, Elmwood is joining children of all ages, across 180 countries, in completing an Hour of Code!

In Science, the Fours and Fives began their hour of code by learning how to give commands to our robot mouse to reach the cheese. We used direction cards to map the sequence of steps and then tried to see if it
worked. Children used critical thinking, problem solving, sequencing and programming skills. They definitely were engaged in this hands-on experience.

The K-1 began their hour of code by learning terms like “run a code”, sequence, loops, and conditionals. They played Box Island, a coding adventure game with a
new mission at each level. Together they figured out how to guide Hiro around Box Island, collecting starts and avoiding pitfalls!

New club alert! We can’t wait for Young Detectives to start in January. Get ready for a weekly mystery adventure! We’ll make maps, analyze clues, question witnesses, and use deductive reasoning to solve the dilemma of the day, while having fun with friends.

Have you heard about Elmwood’s afterschool clubs? In Cooking with , we measure, mix, roll and of course…taste! We’ve made pumpkin cookies, apple fritters, and these scallion pancakes were delicious!

Leading up to Election Day, our 5s and Kindergarten-First Grade classes learned about voting and leadership. How should we carve our pumpkin? What playground should we go to today? They put these decisions to a vote. The K-1 kids even made their own campaign posters. Green beans anyone?
