Excited to share this news with everyone! Grandchildren weren’t even a thought at the time CCK was being formed. But little Jimmy Guercio (1/2 of why this business began so many years ago) and his beautiful girlfriend Vanessa welcomed their baby girl into this world yesterday. Never thought we’d be doing this long enough to see the next generation!!
Yesterday, we held our first formal belt test since reopening in late June. With restrictions still in place, it was necessary to adjust how we normally run things and, unfortunately, eliminate some traditional elements. To keep numbers within the guidelines, we have begun testing, in small groups, students who are ready or near ready to promote. Congratulations to yesterday’s group, and a big thank you to the parents who stepped in to be their child’s “attacker” during the technique portion of the test. Everyone did a great job!! Overall, we’d like to thank each of our families who have been so cooperative with our present normal and have helped to keep things running smoothly.
Next test will be in a few weeks. We’ll keep you posted!!
[09/08/20] Positive thoughts for everyone starting back to school! We have enjoyed seeing 1st day photos over the last week as our students make their way into another year, different as it may be. Best wishes to all! 🍎✏️📚💻
Sharing for anyone who was a part of our MMA program during our Airport Business Park days. We are shocked and saddened to learn that Brent Harbaugh (pictured 4th from the left) passed away last night. Although he has not been an active member of our school for years, he was not a stranger either. Brent will always be remembered for his infectious smile and beyond friendly and positive attitude. Such sudden and tragic news brings into perspective just how fragile life can be. We know he will be so missed by his family and friends. RIP Brent.
[09/06/20] WE WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY 9/7 in observance of Labor Day
We love learning about our young students and their interests outside of martial arts. One such student who loves wildlife is working on handmade items to sell for proceeds which will be donated to two worthy causes. Check out the page below to learn more. Way to go, Prudence! We are very proud of your hard work and dedication to your cause!
Prudence's goal this school year is to save as many animals as possible. She helped cut and sew these perfect fabrics for her cause. She will be donating her proceedes to WWF and Carroll County Bee Association.

This popped up in my memories from 7 years ago and still holds true today.
Good week! The nunchucks have been a hit with the Juniors...The enthusiasm of our Tigers and Dragons always keeps us on our toes (and chuckling - which we all need)...Adult classes are going well...New students are joining...And Mr. Mike even got Zoom finally connected to the big TV (a little thing they call Kenpo time). It is hard to believe that five weeks have passed since we returned to in person sessions. Thank you to our parents and students for their understanding and ongoing communication as we try to make all of this work!
[07/21/20] Parents/Juniors, this is a busy month with vacations. If you are in town this week, please remember to bring your nunchucks to class. At home students, if you are in need of a set, please let us know so we can arrange to get them to you.
Get ready for tonight!

Get ready for some added fun next week!! Rest assured, Mr. Mike will be the one handling this portion of class 😄
Resharing a memory from three years ago. Great trip to Evanston Wyoming where Jackie had the honor of testing in front of Mr. Paul Mills (President and founder of the AKKI) again, this time for her second degree black belt. But it wouldn’t be a Guercio trip without a little blunder. After ending a fun weekend filled with Kenpo seminars and time spent with friends, father/daughter work duo thought they’d fit in a trip to the Grand Tetons before heading to the airport. Oops, someone who will stay nameless misjudged the travel time, and a relaxing afternoon turned into one of excessive speed, maneuvering road construction, detours, some choice words, a race on foot to the boarding gate, a missed flight, more choice words, maybe some angry tears from one party, unexpected time spent in the airport bar 🍺🍺🍺, a crowded replacement flight, news that the original flight was delayed and they could have made it, and some stinky clothes. Good times and memories made 😂! Knowing how alike they are, I did warn them not to kill each other while they were away 🙃
[07/07/20] It’s a hot week ☀️ We have popsicles

Facebook memories shared that 7 years ago today, Mike promoted to 6th degree black belt under his current instructor, Mr. Paul Mills (pictured right), triggering the realization that this coming October will mark 30 years since testing for his 1st degree black in front of Mr. Ed Parker (pictured left)...a privilege and treasured memory as it was only two months before he passed away. Although the journey has slowed at times, it has never stopped. The span of years is a testament to his own words - This is not an activity...It is a way of life.
Good morning and happy throwback Thurs...just an 80s kid going to prom. Guess who 🕺🏾😎
Missing all of our special moms and grandmoms this year!! Enjoy your day!!
Shoutout to all of our instructors and class helpers!! Although we cannot be together and are missing our regular routines, we appreciate the time you have given to help our programs run!! THANK YOU!!
This is long, but we cannot close out the month of April without taking the time to thank everyone who has helped us reach another school anniversary. As I peruse through countless photos, many triggering a collection of memories, it feels great to see Mike still teaching what he so whole heartedly believes in. With a martial arts history that began at the age of 9, the idea of his own school only became concrete when our own two kids were old enough to get involved. They were the driving force when he approached the local family center to start up a few classes for kids, and within a few years we found ourselves needing more time and space. 17 years ago, we were fortunate enough to move on and officially open the door to our first location.
In the years since, we have met some wonderful families, made some great friends, created lasting memories, and have had the pleasure of seeing our young students go on to do remarkable things in various walks of life. I recently received a random text from the parent of two of those former students from our early years. In it, she thanked our family for the positive impact we had on them and for the gentleness and kindness that was shown to her kids during their time with us. With his focus constantly on helping his students, very rarely, if ever, will you hear Mike talk about himself or his accomplishments, but sometimes there are things that don’t have to go unsaid, and I believe this is one of those times. To receive such a heartfelt message after so many years had passed was touching to say the least and extremely uplifting at such an uncertain time for all of us.
So as we begin year 18 in the midst of a crisis, we want to express our gratitude to everyone (students, non-students, other school owners…) who continue to show support for CCK in whatever way that they can. We are thankful that technology has allowed us to stay connected to our students and families through virtual instruction, but admit that we are eager for the day that we can begin to gradually resume classes in person. From the moment we hear the back door close behind the first student to arrive, to the sound of little feet jumping down the front stairs, to the laughter that trails through the hall, to every voice we hear as the evenings progress, what we gain from the energy that fills the walls of that old brown building goes beyond description.
Thank you for another year! We look forward to the coming days with hopeful hearts!
An email was sent out yesterday to those who ordered sweatshirts.
They are in.
Please let us know how you would like your order handled 😊
Dreaming of the day that we can all be together again, Lol!! #socialdistancingatitsfinest
