Division 2 Young Marines

From HQYM, sent as an email to all:

We have been diligently watching the effects of Covid-19 across the country impact this summer’s events and our lives in general. In discussions with your Division leaders, HQYM staff and others, we believe it is in the best interest of our Young Marines and overall program that the events for 2020 SPACES be cancelled. This was not an easy decision to make. However, it is obvious that there will be some weeks to go before we as a program would feel comfortable moving and then hosting so many Young Marines, Adult Volunteers, and staff around the country. There are also well published lingering logistics issues with air travel, meals, and lodging.

For the time being we are not canceling LAVA or Cyber Paths as they take place later in the summer and are mostly self-contained, giving us some time for further review. Leadership Schools will be addressed separately. We will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision regarding these events by early June.

All deposits for events will be refunded back to the unit’s account as soon as possible. For any questions regarding refunds, please direct them to the Director of Finance, Felice Hilton at [email protected] or call her at 1(800)717-0060 x205.

For any additional questions regarding SPACES and the 2020 events cancellation, contact Heather Schmidt in the Operations Department at [email protected] or call her at 1(800)717-0060 x210.

We will be sending out more information on plans for later in 2020 and 2021 in the coming weeks as we work through discussions and contracts with potential vendors. My best to all of you to stay safe, healthy, and take care of each other. We will see each other again soon, and not just virtually.

Semper Fi,

Col Davis

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we begin a daily feature of the six Division Adult Volunteer of the Year winners with Division 1 - Siobhan Fagan, Unit Training Officer with the Blackstone Valley Young Marines in Milford, Massachusetts.

“I adore working with my Young Marines,” she said. “The program is a happy place for me, because I can help America’s youth become something more than what is expected. Teaching a class isn’t just teaching a class, it’s a chance to change a life. Talking about Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) isn’t just a check box, it’s a chance to save a life.”

Ms. Fagan was a youth member of the Young Marines from 2004 through 2012 and became an adult volunteer in 2013 when home on holidays and breaks in college.

Congratulations Ms. Fagan and thank you to ALL volunteers in the Young Marines. Volunteers are the heart of our organization! Tune in to the Virtual Adult Leaders Conference on Saturday, May 9 to see who wins the title of National Adult Volunteer of the Year. #YoungMarines #Volunteer #NVW
