Rice GalleryThe Esther Prangley Rice Gallery offers students the unique opportunity to see artwork created by both regional and national contemporary artists working in a variety of media, and a variety of styles.
The Esther Prangley Rice Gallery is a multi-faceted space dedicated to teaching, learning and exhibiting diverse art forms by McDaniel students and emerging contemporary artists from within the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. Throughout the academic year, Art History and Studio Art faculty incorporate and often design content for their courses in conjunction with events and activities organized in the Rice Gallery. Contemporary artists displayed in the Rice Gallery are selected for their work’s ability to cross disciplines, enhance the liberal arts education of all McDaniel students, and support faculty research and creative projects. An article about 'Head Out'. Our first exhibit of the Spring semester.
carrollcountytimes.com Up close, artist John Hampshire's paintings seem like abstractions of boldly colored lines sweeping as if blown upon the canvas by a tornado. With distance though, these abstractions slowly come together to form the image of a human face.
Here's an article from the Albany Times Union about our second artist exhibiting in the Rice Gallery this spring.
timesunion.com Walk into Brian Cirmo's studio to discuss his paintings and there's a good chance you'll end up talking about literature. Art Students!!!! A show to enter:
American University’s Museum at the Katzen Arts Center is presenting “[email protected],” an exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of Marcel Duchamp’s readymade concept that will run Sept. 2 to Oct. 19, 2014. The exhibition will be curated by Maryland artist, art theorist and Corcoran College of Art and Design professor, Mark Cameron Boyd, and includes an “open call,” juried exhibit opportunity seeking submissions of “new” readymades from artists that significantly expand upon Duchamp’s idea. As the originary conceptual act, Duchamp’s choice of commercially available objects for art exhibition, such as “Bottle Rack” and his infamous “Fountain” urinal, secured his reputation in art history. It was Duchamp’s location of these objects within the “art context” that began a century of debate about the definitions of art and established Duchamp’s influence on contemporary art practices. “[email protected]” will both celebrate Duchamp’s vision and recognize the relevance of the readymade by exhibiting new work by emergent artists that continue a contemporary development of the concept.
Katzen Arts Center will publish a catalog of the exhibition with reproductions of selected artworks and a curatorial essay, and public talks and a lecture are planned during the exhibition. Submissions of artwork must be in high-resolution (300dpi) digital format and must be received by June 15, 2014. Artists interested in submitting work who require further information may contact Lucy Crowley at [email protected].
