March is #WomensHistoryMonth, another opportunity to highlight our unique and powerful role in telling a more complete American story through the places we are honored to preserve and protect. Visit any of the more than 400 national parks across the country or join a ranger program to learn more or reflect on women's contributions of past and present.

This month, we also celebrate the 200th birthday of Harriet Tubman, who escaped to freedom at age 27, then helped dozens of enslaved people find freedom on the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park, the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and partners have collaborated to recognize Tubman's life and impact from enslavement to freedom.

March 1 marks the first day of Women’s History Month! MSEA celebrates Claire McCardell, a Maryland-born fashion designer. She created casual but sophisticated clothes with a functional design, which reflected the lifestyles of American women. She is credited with the creation of American sportswear.

Look for more commemorative posts each week this month!

Each year, approximately 60,000 young children are treated in emergency departments after getting into medicines on their own or after dosing errors by adults. It’s important to make sure that medicine is always immediately returned to its safe storage location. Traveling? While staying with family or friends or at a hotel, find a safe storage place that is out of sight and reach of young children, like a high cabinet. If you’re in a hotel room, try the passcode-protected room safe for safe storage.
All opioids should be stored in their original packaging. Don't store them in places medicines are usually kept, such as in a bathroom or kitchen cabinet. Instead, place them in a locked cabinet, lockbox, or other location where people can't easily access them. For more information visit
