GAYLA WEEK - Gayla Week at Wartburg is a celebration of our LGBTQ community. Upcoming Gayla Week events include:

• Spoken word poet — Katie Wirsing, a spoken word poet and activist, will perform Tuesday, March 18, 8 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum.

French Film Festival — The French Film Festival continues Tuesday, Feb. 18, 6 p.m., with the showing of Elza. It is a story about girl who leaves everything she knows to find out the truth about her father. The movie will play in Whitehouse Business Center Room 116 with free popcorn and a lively discussion hosted by students enrolled in French 276: Intro to the Cultures and Literatures of the Francophone World.
The Va**na Monologues — The V-Day Campaign will host three benefit performances of Eve Ensler's award-winning play, The Va**na Monologues, Feb. 20-22. Shows begin at 8 p.m. in McCaskey Lyceum. A panel discussion will follow the Friday and Saturday performances. Tickets are $5 at the door or can be reserved by calling Sheree Covert at 352-8643. Proceeds will assist the Cedar Valley Friends of the Family, a nonprofit victim advocacy agency serving 14 counties in Northeast Iowa.

Program on bullying — KCRG-TV9 and Wartburg College Television are teaming up to fight bullying in Eastern Iowa with a one-hour special Sunday, May 5. “The Bullied: Stand Up and Speak Up” is designed to educate families about bullying and what can be done to stop it, while providing a forum for open discussion. It will air at 6 p.m. on KCRG Channel 9.2 and online at www.wartburgcircuit.org/bullied.
KCRG-TV9’s Ashley Hinson and Wartburg Television’s Danny Housholder will host the program with stories from victims of bullying, including persons with disabilities; le***an, gay, bis*xual and transgender youths, and schoolchildren. Wartburg student Andrew Tubbs, a first-year student from Des Moines, will talk about how bullying in regard to disabilities. He was born without the radius bone in his arms, causing them to be very short, and has low-blood platelets. A panel of experts will offer advice to families and youth affected on how to stand up to bullying and stop it.

I have 45 years of experience teaching the joy of music to students of all ages. I currently teach piano, voice, guitar and bass guitar lessons.
Our commitment is to establish a math and science (mainly information technology) clinic in Aburi village, Ghana and other parts of the country to teach the children and youth of the country some skills in math and science (information technology).
