STING WEEK 2024!!!! This year’s STING theme is DISNEY!! The official week is March 11-14th! The recipients are Landon Nault and his family. Landon, a 2014 KHS graduate, and his wife Ericka are expecting their 2nd child. They recently learned their baby has spina bifida. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help the Nault family with the financial stress associated with the already insurmountable stress they have for the well-being of their baby and allow them to focus on the health of their growing family. We need help from our KPS students and community to help us achieve and surpass our goal! Keep an eye out on Facebook and follow our instagram page for information on mini fundraisers leading up to the big week in March.

Did you reserve a seat in The Hive for basketball season? If so, you can pick your pass up tomorrow night at the front gate! There are still some seats left to reserve!

Two IMPORTANT dates for NHS members:

December 8th:
This Friday from 4:00pm-8:00pm NHS will be selling hot chocolate/cookies outside of Walmart in exchange for donations toward Angel Tree. This is National Honor Society's partnership with DHS; the money is used to "adopt" kids in the foster system to help get them clothes, shoes, and presents.

December 18th:
There is a Foster Teen Party event at the Kingfisher Fairgrounds. NHS is looking for volunteers to help with setup/decorate and then to clean up afterwards. Setup is 8:00-10:30 and clean up would be from 2:30-4:00. 3-4 students are needed in each time slot. See Mr. Thompson or Mrs. Swart to sign up!

Mr. Kaya has been busy with his classes--on November 14, the top students in his Aviation I class earned themselves a field trip to visit the General Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford. The students earned their "Top of the Class" status by competing in an aircraft identification test of 100 flying machines, both past and present.

Also, over the Thanksgiving break the Kingfisher STARS First Tech Challenge Robotics team competed at a meet held at the KUE. KHS freshmen Savana Reherman, Audrey Long and Cooper Davis and sophomore Raiden Clarke were among the team members who built, coded and promoted their team to a third place finish at the meet.

Whether you're cooking, hosting or just feeling grateful for those you love in 2023, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

World Day of Kindness was celebrated today throughout Kingfisher Public Schools. Students from our Jacket Academy collected/unloaded/shelved food from our district food drive at the Jacket Pantry; some of our NHS members helped hand food out at our Kingfisher County Food Bank; some of our seniors and Mr. Glover read books about kindness to the elementary kids; and our high school group Students Stepping Up provided cookies for all school employees, the firefighters, the police, and the hospital employees. It was definitely a great day to be kind, but remember— it’s always great when you are kind 24/7!

Great job, Jackets!!!

On November 7th, members of Mr. Kaya's KHS Aviation II and Advanced Robotics classes toured Tinker Air Force base in Midwest City as part of their STEM Careers for Civilians program.
Students met with both civilian and Air Force employees on the tour, gaining access to the REACT (Reverse Engineering and Critical Tooling) lab to view high tech 3-D printing and scanning technologies as well as the massive jet engine manufacturing, repair and testing facilities. The highlight of the tour included direct, hands-on access to an in-service KC135 Statotanker, which provides aerial refueling for the Air Force fleet.

The sophomores and seniors got a Reality Check this week. Our OSU Extension office provided this exercise for the sophomores yesterday and the seniors today. At the beginning of the activity, all students were given an occupation based on their educational plans after high school. They were also given an amount of play money equivalent to the average monthly salary in that occupation and whether they were single, married and/or had kids. The students then took part in the "real world" and got to spend their salary on the necessities and luxuries they envisioned as part of the adult lifestyle.

Representatives from our local housing industry, utilities, grocery stores, department stores, financial institutions, auto dealerships, medical profession, child care centers, travel and entertainment, etc., were present at the Reality Check to help students determine how much of their income will need to be spent in each category in order to provide them with their desired lifestyle. The goal of this exercise is to help students learn whether their occupation will provide the type of lifestyle they want.

We want to say THANK YOU to Lindy Peterman at OSU Extension and all businesses/volunteers involved for putting on this event!

BEDLAM.........Since this weekend is the last ever Bedlam football game in Oklahoma, we're planning a friendly competition at Kingfisher High School! Today starts our district-wide Food Drive………so come on, high school students and staff- bring any canned goods/non-perishable items to the school until Thursday of next week (Nov. 9th). There will be tables at the front entrance–put your food on the OSU or the OU table and let’s see who "wins"–the Cowboys or the Sooners!

This Halloween there was a crime scene in Mrs. Ruhl’s classroom! Did SpongeBob do it?! Her English 1 students will make claims and counterclaims on who did what. The students will put SpongeBob on trial and use evidence to prosecute or defend him. This trial is used as a hands on experience in constructing an argumentative essay where claims, counterclaims, and evidence are essential to proving your argument. What a fun assignment!
Also in Mrs. Ruhl's classroom a few weeks ago, students read the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" and played a game that was adapted to fit the story. Thanks for sharing, Mrs. Ruhl!
