At the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, we made history with the FIRST EVER Deaf panel moderated by Motion Light Lab founder and director Melissa Malzkuhn with Deaf directors, writers, producers, Shoshannah Stern and Nyle DiMarco, and the Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin at @theimpactlounge. This hour long conversation explored the hidden contributions Deaf people made in shaping our society, the civil rights, and how important it is to tell our stories in our own voice, the innovations we are making in cinema, and the experience of creating two groundbreaking documentaries: Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore, and Deaf President Now! The panel was insightful, emotional, and brilliant all at once. It was so full that the rest of attendees stood in the back.
